maggie cruises Posted January 4, 2013 #51 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I have never smelled marijuana on board. I don't smoke it. But I actually do like the odor. same here
maggie cruises Posted January 4, 2013 #52 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I am going to be new to cruising in April, so I can't speak of it on a boat. I have smelled it at parties and I just ask them to take it elsewhere. I can't be near it because of health reasons and someone will need to go elsewhere and it won't be me! they won't be smoking it out in the open. If you smell it from a cabin you will have to knock or better yet call security. don't be surprised if nothing is done about it initially.i

docs wife Posted January 4, 2013 #54 Share Posted January 4, 2013 We have smelled it on almost every cruise that we have had a balcony cabin for. We have complained but to the best of our knowledge, nothing has ever been done about it so the past few cruises we haven't bothered to say anything. MissMeggieMurphy Posted January 4, 2013 #55 Share Posted January 4, 2013 i've smelt pot on every cruise ship and in almost every hotel i've ever stayed at. i also smell it on the beach, at swimming pools, and at every rock and roll concert i have ever been to. and i rarely go to a party with my mom's generation where some company big wig isn't smoking it out in the garden with the rest of the elite set. i'm sure that a very large portion of the over 60 populace has been and still is involved with the stuff. in fact my grandma still bakes her magic brownies when the old girls get together for their weekly bridge night. Tantra1 Posted January 4, 2013 #56 Share Posted January 4, 2013 Like so many things on board ship there needs to be a little courtesy and consideration for others especially if their behavior, customs, etc. are not negatively impacting you. If the smoke from any source (pot, cigarettes, cigars) is causing you to have medical issues due to asthma or allergy then maybe consider addressing the source directly, explaining your problem, and asking them to not smoke next to your balcony or room. Then if that doesn't work report to security before you throw them overboard. Just a thought. Cheers!
Wildgrits Posted January 4, 2013 #57 Share Posted January 4, 2013 On my first cruise nothing but was offered some green or white while at the Boatyard in Barbados. -Victory- Second cruise we smelled it every day from our balcony. Couldn't tell if it was above or below or if was the same direction, but every night it was there. -Legend-
All4fun&fun4all Posted January 4, 2013 #58 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I have smelled it in the hallways on a couple of cruises. I have even smelled it inside my cabin back in the day. ;) But, since the implementation of the "no smoking in cabins" rule...I havent smelled it at all. Rare chasinraynbowz Posted January 4, 2013 #59 Share Posted January 4, 2013 DH and I were on the Conquest the week before Christmas and boy could you smell it. The morons in the cabin next to us spent a lot of time on their balcony smoking. We had our balcony door open at one point and the smell in our cabin was so strong that I was worried about getting busted... lol. My boss and his family were on a Royal Caribbean ship at the same time and he said they smelled it quite often too. So its not just Carnival. CrusingGolfers Posted January 4, 2013 #60 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I smelled it last year on the freedom on our first day. The smell was creeping into my room so we reported it since we didn't really want out formal clothes smelling like weed. The room steward took care of it and we never smelled it again. I'm usually not a rat do whatever you want on vacation but when my room and dress clothes smell like it I had to say something. Only time we have smelled it 1 day out of 15 on a ship. okgirl Posted January 4, 2013 #61 Share Posted January 4, 2013 It's rare but I have smelled it. More often on people crowded into an elevator rather than just wafting out of a cabin. One of the worst scenes I've ever witnessed was in MoBay. A family was going through port security to get back to the ship. The father and son were being escorted away from the pier by the police his 17ish aged son was sobbing and in handcuffs, while the sobbing mom and 10yo sister were turning to get on the ship. ib4cruzn Posted January 4, 2013 #62 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I have smelled it at least once on every CCL cruise I've been on. Haven't cruised since the no smoking in cabin policy went into effect. Ditto here. It seems quite common on the Caribbean itins. Not judging... HeatherC430 Posted January 4, 2013 #63 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I've smelled it on at least half of the Carnival cruises I've been on. It's not a big deal to us, we normally get a good laugh out of it when we encounter the smell while walking through the hallways! I'm sure it's only for medicinal use!;)

JinxyB Posted January 4, 2013 #65 Share Posted January 4, 2013 My neighbor on the Liberty last year was constantly out on his balcony smoking either pot or cigarettes- it was disgusting and he was a truly disgusting individual who was always belittling his wife and was an unpleasant person in general. I made the mistake of going on my balcony when he was out there naked- the glass is reflective! Yuck!!

mnlovesdisney Posted January 4, 2013 #68 Share Posted January 4, 2013 The last Carnival cruise we were on four or five years we had that situation. We would pass as certain number of cabins on the way to ours and the smell was overwhelming. At times it was even hazy in the hallway outside those cabins. That cruise also involved a port day in Montego Bay, Jamaica...ummm probably not a coincidence.

How sad would that be. I have never smelled it on the cruises I have been on although I have been approached at ports before to buy drugs.
Mizzouaholic Posted January 7, 2013 #70 Share Posted January 7, 2013 I'd rather smell the "party smell" over the "I went back for thirds at the buffet at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and had pizza, Guys Burgers, Seaside BBQ, and sushi in between smell." Just saying!
roxiebarclay Posted January 7, 2013 #71 Share Posted January 7, 2013 How sad would that be. I have never smelled it on the cruises I have been on although I have been approached at ports before to buy drugs. Didn't smell anything on our Xmas Glory cruise, but xmas is family oriented so maybe that is why. In cozumel when I was port shopping with my sons- the minute I walked away from them they were approached by vendor after vendor asking them if they wanted to buy drugs or cigars. Always good to have a little chat prior to the cruise re drugs and drug sniffing dogs even if you believe your child would never do drugs. Or maybe watch that claire danes movie Brokedown Palace. That poor family....
