Rum Point - options to get there?

The Sunset Glow

There are a few tours that include a stop at Rum Point but to really enjoy it on a cruise stop you need to rent a car and make the 45 min drive. It's an easy drive and not that expensive to rent but it will be your main destination for the day. But it is worth it.

We tool the 4 hr Fat Fish Adventure jet ski excursion which included a stop there for lunch, and we've taken the free cat sail there for dinner at the restauramt. But for a nice say enjoying the beach you'd want to drive there.

we were at Rum point in October..I wouldn't call it good snorkeling there at all.

We booked a tour thru nativeway..their reef, rays, and rum point tour. It included lunch at rum point, which was wonderful.. rum point itself? Meh... we very much enjoyed our interaction with the sting rays, and Chris, who was our guide for the day, was a lot of fun... we also went to the 'coral gardens' for snorkeling..deep water, but wonderful!!

Andy, Rum Point is well liked as a spot to lime, not necessarily do anything else. You can take a jet ski or boat out a short way to the reef, but just enjoy the vibe, grouper sandwich, and drinks at RP.

I think Rum Point sounds great for travel with kids who want to do so snorkel and beach time but we don't really want to rent a car and drive there. Can you get there by bus or boat? Anyone have any options for us?

Thanks!

Bus does not go to Rum Point. The closest it gets is about 4.5 miles away.

Andy goes where ever I book the excursions.. :p ..and I'm trying to figure out what word 'lime' was supposed to be ( damn autocorrect!)

Definitely a hang out and chill spot.. but we found the water rough/rocky ( wear shoes!) to get into from the beach..also not much sun on the beach, and it is lined with trees...crowd was definitely older..but then, this was October, so that might have an effect on the 'vibe' ( which was quite sleepy)..but Rum point wasn't my reason for the excursion..it was the coral gardens and sting ray city anyway.

Way to go Andy!

Depends on the day, etc. very busy w/ locals on Sun. The beach is shaded and clear, rocky and sandy, just depends on where you go. One of our snorkel stops with Fat Fish Adventures (best excursion on GCM) was just off RP, you can rent a jet ski and go there, not that far. I would definitely recommend RP to those who have done SMB and want something different (better IMHO).

We don't snorkel, but my brother lives in the Caymans. When we docked there we went to Rum Point. Very nice, calm, chill spot. It does take about 45 mins and if your there on a weekday, consider adding more time if you'll hit rush hour on the way back.

The sting rays swam right up to us. I remember DH and I laughing about people paying for the sting ray excursion. (Not trying to bad mouthing paying for it, it was just ironic that we got the experience for free).

We liked Rum Point because getting there you'll see more of the island and it was peaceful.

I would not recommend it on Sunday. That's when everyone takes our their boats and it gets crowded.

When we last stayed in GCM we took the free cat sail to RP for dinner and it was our favorite experience of our 2 week stay, probably because we're very busy the rest of the time. Dinner was excellent, and the sail very relaxing. I would recommend that option if you return for a longer visit. The free cat sail is through Red Sail Sports.

Lime was supposed to be lime.

From UrbanDictionary.com:

lime

origin: Trinidadian

meaning:

(v) hanging out/socialising in an informal relaxing environment, especially with friends, for example at a party, or on the beach.

(n) an event at which liming takes place, e.g. a party. A gathering of people engaged in activities associated with liming. Often qualified using an adjective e.g. big lime.

(v) We liming on the beach today

(n) That party going to turn out be a big lime.
