" Dress Up Only " restaurant ?

If your ship offered a " Dress Up Only " restaurant , would you attend ?

I voted yes but probably only up to half the time. I really enjoy the main dining room with the same waitstaff and dinner companions.

As I've said before in other posts, I enjoy the opportunity to dress up and enjoy seeing others dressed up as well. Anything that can make a cruise more special is great in my book.

I know that. You obviously know that. But I've only been reading these boards for a few months and I've already figured out that not everybody believes that.

 

Plus just look around the dining room on Formal Night and you'll know that not everybody follows it.

Lucky for me, I haven't seen people dressed down on formal night. Maybe because I do late seating? Or maybe because I just haven't been looking? Either way, I have fun dressing (up) for dinner :).

Unfortunately this idea wouldn't work. There are always going to be big babies that would whine that it isn't fair that they can't come in because they are wearing shorts. Or some hunyuck that would wear the t-shirt with the tuxedo picture on the front. Or a woman with cotton shorts, a t-shirt and a sequined baseball hat.

 

And in the name of "customer satisfaction" they'd be allowed in.

 

The oddest I ever saw on formal night was a woman about 2 tables down. Her baby (infant) was dressed in a tux, and she was wearing WAY too tight denim shorts (for her frame) and a tank top. It was just weird to see.

We saw all kinds in the dining room on the Navigator, but only a few offenders on formal night. It was interesting to see what people thought formal was though...some reallly weird stuff....

 

There was a guy and a girl, who, on the first formal night made a grand entrance so everyone would notice them,(talking loudly, flitting around) he was dressed, really more like smart casual,(no suit/slacks and a shirt) and she was in some white tight thing, that was very see-through, so that apparently, you could see that she was wearing thong underwear:rolleyes: ....then on the last formal night, they were even more casual, like they were going to the grocery store, and he was wearing basically blue and green, with RED suede puma tennis shoes!! I'll tell ya, I just don't get it......:rolleyes:

 

There were people in jeans,(not many) and tacky shirts, baseball caps, several cowboy hats, not on men though, and not on western night, in the dining room...the worst by far was a man who looked like he just rolled out of bed, and dug his clothes out of the dufflebag...he should have been turned away.

I agree. It wouldn't be long before the extra restaurant became just like formal night, most follow the guidelines, but some will not and know if they raise a stink, they will be let in.

 

The best "OH MY GOSH" Formal night I've ever seen was the lady who was celebrating her 95th birthday, being escorted to the captain's table in her best... SEQUIN TUBE TOP and LOW RISE BALL GOWN SKIRT. - Tummy showing and everything. But you know what, she was beaming like the beautiful 18 year old I'm sure she was at one time and having the time of her life, so THAT made her the most beautiful woman at formal night...

Anyway, as I stated before, I like your style 1corona4U, and you can share my table anytime! You will recognize us, the DH is in full tux, and I am in cocktail dress for formal nights. The other nights are dresses for me, and dress slacks, dress shirt and tie for the DH.

YES, I think a dress up only restaurant would be wonderful. It should be strictly enforced as a dress only affair. People Not dressed approriately would Not be allowed to dine there.Too Bad, How Sad.Go back to the cabin and dress up,then return. I love all the elegance. We were in NY a couple of summers ago,and had been told to go up to the restaurant at the top of the NBC building,for the excellent view. We had been warned that it was very very dressy at night,and also prohibitavely expensive,but to go early and just have a drink and enjoy seeing the city from up there. We were told that during the day,you could dress nicely casual. So, we went about 4 pm,but it didn't open til 5,so we stood around and waited for an hour.I had on a long skirt and nice top and sandals,hubby had on nice collared shirt,and gray dress slacks. Because we had walked several blocks to the building,he had worn his gray suede tennis shoes. They even matched his pants. Well, they refused to let us enter the elevator to go to the top. They said tennis shoes were Not permitted in the restaurant.I couldn't believe it,who would notice his shoes? Nope, we couldn't go up. Were we supposed to throw a fit,and demand to be let in? Fat lot of good that would have done,I'm sure. We just left. So, there are places that have a strict dress code,and they DO stand by it. Why can't the cruise ships do the same? :(

Not only do I like the thought of a "dressy only" restaurant...but I can't seem to pass up two things in the mall. I am like a heat seeking missle when it comes to shoes and evening dresses. Must be the kid in me that used to like to play "dress up". Remember those days? :D

LOL, yeah, I know what you mean. I took 13 pairs of shoes on my cruise,:D and wore every last pair of them, at least once, LOL, but I did have to shove my still recovering from being broken, humungous, swollen foot in them after the 4th night, LOL :D But, hey, I will have them for the next cruise, because I bought good classic colors, and styles.

My BF and I go and spend a weekend at a mall (stay at a connected hotel) every year. We are going end of the month. We don't really need to buy anything (we already hit outlet malls about 2 months ago). We've already made plans to hit the Nordy's shoe department (wish we had one here) and try on evening dresses at every store in the mall.:)
