Help - Question about CCL Spirit in Juneau

A few or our group have booked back-to-back shore excursions in Juneau, not through the ship. We will be on the Carnival Spirit. A few have booked a 9:30 excursion to Mendenhall Glacier, and all of us are going Whale Watching with Captain Larry at 12:30. The first group is due back at noon. Here's the dilemma - How and where do I get them lunch? Will the ship pack a "box lunch"? If so, I could get them and bring them to everyone. If not, is there a reasonable deli in the area (walking distance from the cruise dock?) I went on a whale watching cruise with Capt. Larry once before, and they put out a handful of crackers and a few shards of cheese - I didn't even get a smell. I'm not counting on them to feed us. I went on the Mendenhall Glacier website, and there is no mention of a snack bar or cafeteria, so I can't count on that. Whale watching is 3.5 hours - I can't expect my husband to skip lunch. Nor can I expect him to "just have a big breakfast". That just doesn't work with him. Can anyone suggest how I can "feed the hungry bear?" He gets cranky when he's hungry, and we don't want that. Any ideas? Budget Queen, are you out there? Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are several "fast food" options downtown Juneau, but no food available at Mendenhall Glacier. If you care to, you could probably pack up food from the ship, but I wouldn't bring off fruits and veg, since there may be restrictions. Purchase drinks downtown.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'll bring baggies, AND look around for a deli. If anyone knows the location of any particularly good fast food, I'd appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll just wander around a bit.

I can't believe what I have just read!!! Can some people please get their priorities. Do you realize you may never get back to some of these places and what you will see are just mind blowing experiences!! And all you are worried about is what are we going to eat!!!!!!

You will be on a cruise ship with food , food, food for 7 days and you are worried about what will we eat for lunch. FOR GOD'S SAKE GET A LIFE.

I have a life. I am escorting a group of 18 people, and many of them are on their first cruise, and will be looking to me to answer every question. Several of my group are taking back to back shore excursions, because I advised them to. HOW DARE YOU JUMP DOWN MY THROAT? IF ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME IS FLAME PEOPLE ON CRUISE BOARDS, MAYBE IT IS YOU WHO SHOULD GET A LIFE. I also suggest more fiber in your diet.

The whole point of the OPs post is that they won't be on the ship at all during the day because they will be out seeing the wonderful experiences Alaska has to offer, so they won't be able to get food. Even at home, most people need to eat in the middle of the day to keep up their strength.

Naw, I know Liz. She was on the Spirit for 19 days and has major PCD (Post Cruise Depression), and she's probably laughing and didn't mean any harm. There is food food food and you never go hungry, I skipped a lot of breakfasts and lunches, but the memories do last forever.

Well yes I do know what I am talking, about and I don't need people to make excuses for me (Thanks Denise you are a darling, and know me very well).

I do know what it is like when you do excursions, and for us, to worry about what we are going to eat for a few hours is the last thing on our minds. We actually did a tour in Skagway, where we had 2 tours booked (to get the most experiences possible)and we didn't get time to eat,and we just went along with the experience and actuallly forgot thet we hadn't even eaten. Take some fruit from the buffet and go along and love every minute that you can.

I'm sure when you have been on these fantastic tours you and your friends will realize there is more to life than just worring about where your next plate of food will be. Remember a cruise ship more than food food food.

Was in Juneau and with Captain Larry two weeks ago. We saw so many whales and blows that we didn't have time to think about food. Then Kelley broke out smoked salmon, cheese and crackers. Anyway, unless you're from the west coast, your clock time and stomach time will not be anywhere near the same. Also, by Juneau, you will have had plenty of time to lay on a little extra padding. (I wanted to say 'blubber,' but the whales may have taken offense to that.) Enjoy both--then catch a good local meal or break your fast back on board.
