FLchick3 Posted January 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2013 Hi, Can anyone please give an overview of CocoCay? How many different types of cabanas? Two? Are the cabanas near the water? If we don’t get a cabana, are there plenty of other places for shade? Lastly, is the cabana area “quieter”, less people? Less children...then other areas? Thank you in advance! crenntive Posted January 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2013 the cabanas are near but not at the water . most are facing the seawall .( looking out at the ship but just to the side is the water for swimming / snorkeling . There are a number of places where there is shade else ware . It is a lot quieter at the cabanas and the privet buffet is nice too . Also you don't have to bring your towels from the ship they have them there for cabana guests . On my most recent cruse we got the family cabana and enjoyed the bottled water and relaxed until lunch . the upgraded buffet was nice and there were no birds trying to take it the moment you turn your head . It was quiet and relaxing. These are the one type . off to the left is the sea wall and you can see the water access . When I was there last they had bamboo wall up to help keep the sun out and for privacy. These are the other ones you can get It was well worth the extra $ IMHO
Curly locks Posted January 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2013 Can someone please tell me where I can find information about the Cabanas at Coco Cay e.g cost; upgraded buffet; how and when to book? Many thanks!
Cshgrand Posted January 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2013 If you are looking for something straight on the sand there are also the cabanettes for $50 on barefoot beach. You get loungers, clam shell thing or Palm umbrella, water, fruit plate and two floating mats plus tractor ride to and from lunch. It's a quiet beach near the sand bar, only down side is that the sea bed feels like mud in some places when you wade out. There is a bar at the cabanette area too. schlimazel_traveler Posted January 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I wish we'd known about these. We were suite guests. I'm surprised the concierge didn't mention it as an option since he did spend a while helping my husband figure out what to book on Coco Cay. wolfganghowell Posted January 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2013 The cabanas were unavailable on our sailing due to Sandy. We booked a cabanette and were happy with the way things turned out. The location was much better, price a lot cheaper. Still had water and fruit plate but had to do normal buffet. Mr Wolf didn't like the cabana location - the cabanettes had direct water access - although the water was cold and seaweedy - but that would not always be true. Again - it was due to weather, not location.
paggerscorvette Posted January 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2013 We rented a family cabana in Dec. 4 adults and 2 children. Besides the upgraded lunch (which was worth the $), it was very quiet. Short hop to the water. We had a fruit plate, champaigne, bottled water snorkel equip and 2 floating mats. FLchick3 Posted January 8, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted January 8, 2013 So the ones with 3 walls (like a room) is the cabana, and the ones without walls – 4 chairs together are the cabanettes? Is that correct? Thanks!

Is that correct? Thanks! No in our case it was a Palm umbrella, table and three loungers. We were front row and those behind were these canvas shade things which covered the two loungers. We were on barefoot beach - haven't sorted pics from my 'big' camera yet but will try to post one soon. Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk

alane10 Posted January 8, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 8, 2013 Can someone who has rented a cabana recently provide the price? We rented one in early December for $150, but the RCI website is now showing $200. We will be back next weekend and want to know what to expect! Last year we paid $200 for an over the water cabana at Nellies Beach on Labadee for Dec , 2012. They are now charging $250 for the same cabana. We used to share the cost with six people, now that is becoming to much for a days outing too.. Yes, the rates have gone up... Nellies Beach in Labadee is a public beach with an outdoor shower, rest room, and a bar for drinks..

RCI Cruisers 004 Posted January 9, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 9, 2013 If you are able, book the bigger cabana. It is well worth the price. Supposedly the suite guests get first shot at them. As you are approaching Coco Cay, the cabanas are on the private beac area to your left....you will see them as you come in. It is a quiet area, unless you have noisy neighbors. You will get a private lunch as a perk, along with bottled water and snorkel gear

TexCruise371 Posted January 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 9, 2013 We rented a CoCo Cay cabana in October. We were in the last one next to the rope off area. As far as the cabana, it was fine. The food was great with, steak, shrimp grilled on a skewer, hamburgers....very good. The down side was that people outside the area would walk through the gate (ok, past the rope) and just peer into our cabana and watch us.:mad: Was not a cool deal. We would probably not rent one again there as we did not think they compared at all to Labadee.
LovesCruising Posted January 9, 2013 #18 Share Posted January 9, 2013 We just rented on CoCo Cay while on our 12/30 Explorer cruise. We just returned on Sunday 1/6. As far as I know, the old style Cabanas were destroyed by Sandy. All of the Cabanas at the Cabana Oasis (I think its called) are basically the same. Very similar to the ones on Barefoot Beach at Labadee. Our Cabana did not have a number on it, while others were numbered so I assumed it was a newly built one that replaced the old style. All pricing was $200 - we had 6 adults. We had to sign in at the entrance where the concierge met us. There is no transport to the Cabanas as there is in Labadee, however the walk is short. There is also no cabana attendants like in Labadee but the bar is very close. Basically there is no service at all. The walk to the beach was short and not a problem. It was quieter than on the crowded beach and did have the upgraded bbq. We received 4 large warm bottles of water - no ice, no cooler. No champagne or fruit as some others have stated. There were towels so we did not have to bring them from the ship We were given coupons for 2 floating mats and 2 sets of snorkel equipment enven tho we were 6 they would not give us additional. While we really enjoyed the relaxation the Cabana provided, it did not compare with the beach and service at Labadee. Since our Cabana did not have a number I cannot give that, however our location once passing the "water tower" was 2 away facing the water with a fantastic view. Keep in mind, there are other cabanas - behind those whose view would have been slightly obstructed by ours. I found upon entering the area there were 3 cabanas directly to the right. 2 pretty much faced the beach but the 3rd was on the corner facing the beach and the ocean - very close to the bar and closer to the beach walk. (Hope thats not too confusing) Cabanas are rented to GS and above and Pinnacle first - then I belive D+ and below. You can e mail your concierge before sailing - waiting to board may result in no availablily. I didn't notice any extra's available when we sailed. Your seapass is charged when your on board. Hope this helps!:)

Come to think of it, we were there on Freedom just a couple of days before Sandy hit. We got to experience the "backside" of her on the way back to Port Canaveral. Was quite a ride the last couple of days!!

We are going to having our elderly parents with us and we thought they might enjoy the island that way. How far were you from the swimming area? Also, I am surprised that they were allowing other passengers into the roped off private cabanas. They are pretty vigilant about stopping gawkers on Labadee. You didn't think it was worth doing again?
