All day in Houston

Kemah, there are some quaint shops; or take a walk on the Strand in Galveston. I just heard on the news today that Houston ranks 7/45 for a great place to visit. I, personally, don't see it. But yes, the museum district holds its own. Houston has some great restaurants as well.

 

You can also go tour the San Jacinto Monument (learn about Texas' Independence). Be sure and watch the film and go up to the top. Battleship Texas is right there too. I can't remember if they are refurbishing it now or not. Last time we were there we couldn't tour it.
