Itinerary change

I booked my May 10the cruise in October - then in December the switched Palermo to Tunis as well. No phone call or email from the company - I know they have the right to but I also have a right to decide if I would like to change or cancel cruise. Jokes on us as far as customer service is concerned! :p

I have never been to Palermo but had been in Tunis. I would rather goto Palermo instead of Tunis. There is nothing much to see in Tunis except a few camels that they are waiting outside the ship, think the cost is 5 euro for a 5 minutes ride. Tunis is very flat. Is it save today? That is another question.

I don't think any North African country is safe for westerners at the moment.

When we were on the Splendida and we went to Tunis, our table mates were a couple from FL and the husband was a university professor, he refused to get off in Tunis because he was afraid that he wouldn' t be able to get back because he was an American & a professor.

I think that since I will be traveling with my 13 year old daughter I will not be doing any real excursions in LaGoulette. For one, we really don't have any interest in it and second we can use it as a day to rest before returning to Rome - we are staying a few days there before coming home.

If there is anything to see or shopping right at the port then we may just step off the ship for a few minutes. Otherwise I think it will be a spa day! ;)

I have been to both La Goulette and Palermo and on balance prefer Tunisia. Palermo is OK, but there is nothing very special to see there really. However, in La Goulette, we did the excursion to Carthage and Sidi Bou Said and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very interesting. Not getting off the ship anywhere is not an option for us! Obviously, La Goulette itself is a dump, but that does not apply to the whole of Tunisia! We spent a 2 week vacation there a few years ago and had a wonderful time. It is a mainstream holiday destination for very large numbers of European visitors, not some strange unsafe third world destination as many Americans seem to think!

I am going on the Prezioza in October. I chose this cruise as one of their

stops was Tunis. I want to see Africa but have the same fears about being

a westerner. They have built a new cruise terminal and it seems it is a

'Village LeGoulette'. It is located right at the cruise terminal and seems

to have gotten good reviews and it satisfies my needs. Hope information

helps.

I can understand your frustration at the cruise ports being changed. We actually cancelled our cruise last summer with a different line because of an itinerary change, but in our case they were switching from Tunis and we really wanted to go there.

If you are concerned over safety but want to see the sights, such as the ruins of Carthage, set up a private tour. You will be escorted and whisked in/out and to the places you want to see. That is what we were going to do before our cruise changed.

It's not uncommon for cruise lines to change ports and not notify. We were not notified on the other line last year as well (it was RCCL) and I found out when checking my port times online.

Just noticed that on my June 22 Splendida cruise, the Palermo stop has been switched out for Tunis. That's a big negative for me! Didn't get notified of it either.

One port is ok,best one was when CArnival changed caribbean cruise to Canada CRUISE :p:p . They must let customers know:mad:

I booked my MSC Splendida cruise in December 2012, at that time I neglected to check MSC official site and booked through an internet agent.

Yeah, it came as a surprise to me when I was planning my excursion earlier this month, I noted that Palermo wasn't in the official itinerary. I checked the internet agent website, its itinerary was still outdated. So I called up the agent, and the customer service officer have to call MSC to confirm their website was outdated too. Their site was only updated with the official itinerary a full week after my call.

In fact, I still noticed the old itinerary was on one other internet cruise agent website last week.

Though it was a little inconvenient for me as I have more or less plan my Palermo excursion, but after read up on Tunis, safety aside, I actually think it's a better cruise port.

I am especially thrilled that Bardo museum is now available (previously, it was undergoing a long and major refurbishment, and most of the displays were closed to the public) again.

Safety issue aside, I personally will avoid going to the Souk, aggressive hawkers and tourist market is not my cup of tea.
