Quito or Guayaquil for New Years?

We are doing a Galapagos cruise and wanted to know where to at the end of the cruise for New Years Eve? Should we stay in Quito or Guayaquil or fly somewhere else for a good time??

Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you :)

Guayaquil has a nice area along the river, called the Malecon. I imagine there'd be lots of stuff going on there, based on the activity during a random Saturday in October. Don't know about Quito.

I also assume it's like most So/Central American cities, and there will be fireworks all over the place, all evening long, peaking at midnight, and continuing for several hours afterwards.
