Wonderful Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Hello and thank you for taking the time to provide such wonderful information.

We will arrive in July on a sunday morning and will probably take a taxi from the airport to our Hotel - which is the Marriott at Kalvebod Brygge 5.

We will have most of sunday, all day monday before boarding the ship on Turesday. Here are a couple of questions.

We would like to do a boat tour. DO you have one you would recommend that would leave from close to our hotel

We would like to visit Nyhavn and it sounds like it a good place for a lunch or dinner. We are used to walking - is it within walking distance of our hotel and is it a reasonable safe walk? Do you have a recommendation of a restaurant? I am not sure about the expense of restuarants in Copenhagen, but would like to spend no more than $150 - $175 American. for the two of us. I can eat most things, but my wife does not care for seafood.

We of course will visit Tivoli gardens. Do you have a suggestion for a restaurant there as well?

I believe there are a couple of casinos in the city. Do you know anything about them? One seems to be reasonale distance from our hotel.

Thanks again for all you advice

We are staying at the Marriott at the end of June. I was in contact with the hotel about taking a boat tour from the hotel, this is their response.....

"There is some construction taking place outside the Hotel by the canal, so the departure point is about 100 meters from the entrance. The boat departs at 9am and tickets can be purchased at the concierge desk. The company is called Stromma."

From my research there are two companies for the tours. Stromma is more expensive. The other company is Netto Badene which is less money but doesn't stop at the hotel.

Which one is outside the Hotel Bethel?

Also how much will a taxi cost us from the airport to the hotel, roughly. We do not arrive until around 10:30 PM. So we really dont want to take the train.

We have a day in Copenhagen in July and I was planning to use the hop on hop off bus to see the main sights centrally. However these seem to get bad reviews on trip advisor with passengers apparently being made to wait outside the bus for 30 minutes or more. Does anyone have any up to date experience ?

We are stayinng at the Hotel Bethel next week and plan to take the metro which is about 8 stops to kongens nytorv station from the airport and walk to the hotel in 5 to 10 minutes. I think Copenhagen is pretty safe even at that late hour. The cab will cost you about 40 to 50 bucks and the metro is about 6 bucks or 33 DDK.

If we are using public transportation, how do we get from the airport to Copenhagen Hotel (Helgolandsgade) and then from hotel to Freeport pier?

With all these confusing should I even bother to take the bus 26 from kongen nytorv to the port or just take a cab? How far is the walk to the ship?

I don't really think it's confusing it's just that they changed the entrance/exit during our cruise and this whole thing just came up before we left so we didn't have instructions from Danish Viking yet for the new entrance/exit.

I think by reading many posts got me confused. I just stick with my plan by taking the bus 26 from kongens nytorv to the pier. Not sure how long is the walk after i get off the bus to the ship. The walking map DV provided looks like pretty far but I do 20 miles bike ride all the time so it shouldn't be a problem.

From the airport you just take the airport train to the central station and walk from there.

From the hotel you can take any northbound S-train from track 9 and 10 and get off at Nordhjavn where you can walk from.

If its a Monday to Friday you can use bus 26 (also from the central station) towards Færgehavn nord or UNICEF.

Here you get off at Stubbeløbsgade and use the new main entrance.

You can’t order a car in advance, for the cruise ships, but get the steward onboard to call one for you, when the ship is docked, if no free cars is at the pier.

Hi there again, Danish Viking! Hope you are doing well!

I'm back asking another question as I had to rework our itinerary due to the unfortunate incident at the Danish Resistence Museum.

I am confused on the usage of the S-trains. I've retraced this entire thread to get myself educated, which apparently didn't help because I'm here asking you to get me "un-confused"!

I want to get from Osterport station to Norreport station in order to visit the Torvehallerne market, then go to Rosenborg Castle.

We will walk to Osterport station.

Here I am confused. I can take an S-train to Norreport, but I am not sure which one? It appears I may even have multiple trains to pick from. I think I have to go southbound.

Then we will walk to the market.

Walk to Rosenborg castle

Catch bus 26 from the stop near Rosenborg Castle back to Indiakaj.

Thank you for your help!

Melissa

Hi Danish, you are so kind to spend so much time answering all these queries.

Please could you help with mine.

We have one short day in Copenhagen as we leave at 4pm. My daughter would love to go to Tivoli to try out some of the rides but, as it doesn't open until 11, I would like to do some sightseeing for about an hour first (including Little Mermaid). The cruise line are running a trip that combines both but I have discovered you only get 40 mins at Tivoli which would not be long enough.

Is there anything you could suggest that would help mother and daughter fit in both their requirements.

Thanks

I'm obviously not Danish Viking but you could do the HOHO bus and only get off at those two sites? - little Mermaid and Tivoli. Meanwhile you get a tour of the city for the rest of the time on the bus.

Sobaycruiser is correct, do the HO/HO bus tour and get off at the Tivoli stop.

Yes directions for the S-trains should be Hundige, Køge (my town :-) ) Høje Taastrup, Ballerup or Frederikssund.

Hi Danish,

Where can I get a map for the city of Copenhagen? Do they give you one from the hotel? Print one from the internet?

Thanks.

If you contact Wonderful Copenhagen they will send some information including a map.

But most hotels will have maps to give out.

Thank you for the help! I'll look for an S-train in one of these directions. I didn't want to make an embarassing mistake and take the wrong train and end up in Sweden a day earlier than the cruise ship!

If you walk along the harbour front it takes around 20-25 minutes to walk from Marriott to Nyhavn.

You can´t avoid seafood when you eat out in Nyhavn but ths restaurant also serves other kind of food.

In Tivoli i can recommend this.

Copenhagen Casino is located at Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel so its a short walk from your hotel.

Lucky for You the S-train doesn´t go the Sweden, that is the Øresundstog (aka Airport train) :D
