Jewel lunch on embarkation day in Seattle

Where can we go for lunch when we board in Seattle? Is the buffet open? What restaurants are open?

Also, I've heard that the rooms aren't always available immediately upon boarding. About what time are they usually open, and how do you know they're open?

Thanks!

The Main Dining Room and the buffet are both open on embarkation day for lunch. Cagney's is open for lunch for suite guests only. There is usually a sail away poolside BBQ right after the muster drill. The Blue Lagoon will open later in the day and the specialty restaurants will be open for dinner only as always! Enjoy!!

Last summer on the Pearl they were striving to make the rooms up quicker. They use the entire staff to work the ship deck by deck starting with the top and working down so if you have a haven suite it will probably be ready when they start boarding at 11:00, the lower your room the less likely it will be ready when you board - the goal (according to the houskeeping manager on the Pearl) was to have the rooms turned by 1:00 - they did not always meet the goal.

Our suite on deck 10 was not quite ready when we boarded at 12:00 (or so we were told) so we had to shelp our bags to Cagneys and then to the suite afterwards. I do not remember any announcements however. But on other cruises there have been deck by deck anouncements about rooms being ready.

As for lunch, yes the Garden Cafe and Great Outdoors will be open along with one of the MDRs - usually the larger one in the rear of the ship - and of course for suites it is Cagneys.

Enjoy your AK cruise - PS where in Oregon do you hail?

We have a mini on deck 11.

We're just south of Portland. Nice to just drive up for the cruise instead of having to fly somewhere! We did this itinerary on Princess 5 yrs ago.

We are west of Portland. We have taken the train and found it to be a great ride. Usually go up the day before (however you could travel the same day and just taxi from the depot to the ship). We usually have enough points on our credit card to pay for the hotel. Last summer we stayed a couple of blocks from the Space Needle so we went up to look around.

I presume that you have read SD Mikes review from last summer - one thing I would do is take the Tracy Arm Explorer excursion - it is well worth the money.

Again enjoy your cruise

If you do not mind a total different suggestion: why not have lunch at Anthony's just in front of where The Jewel will be parked?? Have lunch outside and watch all the activity and then go aboard the ship.

Well, we live only 3 hours from Seattle and have relatives there. We are there at least 4 times a year. Also, we have many in our group, including a couple young teens, who have never cruised are very anxious to get onboard! Thank you, though, for offering up the suggestion. Perhaps someone else reading this will take your advice.
