JLTx2 Posted January 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2013 We have a group of eight going on a cruise April 8th. Some of the crowd want to do the Dolphin encounter but not the turtle farm or 7 mile beach. Some of us want to do snorkeling at Eden's Rock.... Do we rent a jeep and do all this on our own? Do we do the RCL "Dolphin Encouter" and when that is over, hire a cab and forget the turtle farm and/or 7 mile beach and go straight to Eden's Rock? Has anyone done the Dolphin's through anyone besides the cruise ship? We are all ears and can't wait to hear your comments. Thanks, John (JLTx2)
bookbabe Posted January 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2013 Do the Eden Rock group want to do the turtle farm? If so, everyone takes a taxi to the dolphins, because the turtle farm is right across the street. Then taxi back to the port and walk over to Paradise Restaurant (next to Eden Rock) where the part of the group that doesn't want to snorkel can relax with drinks or snacks while they wait for the ones in the water. If not, dolphin group take taxi there (or take excursion) and then another taxi back, while Eden Rock group walks there and snorkels. Or, the whole group taxis to dolphins, snorkel group walks next door to Cracked Conch and snorkels there while rest of group is in dolphins, then whole group taxis back to port. Don't waste the time to rent a jeep, especially since there are no car rental places right at the port. The dolphins/turtles are easy to get to by taxi, and Eden Rock is about a 5-10 minute walk from the port area at most.
JLTx2 Posted January 30, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks for that information. I'm looking up Cracked Conch now to see what that is about. you are right about the jeep.. we are not in the caymans long enough to warrant that rental. JLTx2 Posted January 30, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted January 30, 2013 Do you know what the fees are for snorkeling at the Cracked Conch? Do they rent the snorkel and fins? How far is this place from the Dolphin encounter?

How far is this place from the Dolphin encounter? The restaurant is almost right next door, maybe a 5 minute walk at most? http://www.crackedconch.com.ky/turtlereef-shorediving-snorkelling.php They do seem to have rentals, but no pricing on their website that I can find. If they match everyone else's pricing, which they probably would, I'd guess $15 for mask/snorkel/fins or thereabouts. If you need an exact price, you'll probably have to contact them.
