CruisinChris Posted March 26, 2013 #26 Share Posted March 26, 2013 Diamond is one of my favorite's. She has a wider beam than other Grand Class ship (except her sister Sapphire of course) which gives a noticeably more roomy feel. Her aft decks are also way more open and roomy and super lovely. I've always thought it was a shame these sisters don't sail the Caribbean because their deck space is better suited to it than the other Grands. I think Princess does a very good job of evenly maintaining their ships across the fleet and delivering a very consistent product. Something I value. I don't think you have anything to worry about. ellie1145 Posted April 20, 2014 Author #27 Share Posted April 20, 2014 (edited) Just thought Id better do an update following our wonderful cruise on Diamond Princess. We were nervous, having not sailed with Princess for several years but she was beautiful. She sparkled, and was much nicer than we expected. Our room was beautifully cared for by our steward who was always quick and discrete. Service in the buffet was friendly and helpful - staff seemed very happy to assist, and nothing was too much trouble. Service in the dining room in the evening varied between excellent, fast and efficient to poor, long winded and with cold food. But nothing could spoil our fabulous cruise. Actually swam in the lovely conservatory pool which, unbelievably, was as warm as a bath - this was a first for us as normally the pools on cruise ships are freezing! And the biggest plus factor for us, being so far away from home, was all that free Internet - the best service we've had on any ship - fast and SO easy to use. I logged in with my iPad anywhere on the ship with ease - a great perk for being Platinum, and now Elite! Tuscan Posted April 20, 2014 #28 Share Posted April 20, 2014 If it helps, our upcoming cruise on the Diamond will be for 28 days in Feb, 2015, and that will be our 4th time. That's how much we LOVE this ship. :)

Thank you for checking back in and posting about your lovely time :) Diamond Princess will always have a soft spot in my heart as it was the cruise that Mr.QT booked with out telling and he had to drag me on kicking and screaming ( we had cruised on the NCL Spirit the year before and I HATED it so lumped all cruises into that one cruise). I got off the Diamond Princess asking when our next princess cruise was?? 9 more Princess cruises later and looking to book the 11th :D Yes as platinum we LOVE the free internet and in fact couldn't use up all our minutes on the Royal in Jan. Great perk, can't wait for the free laundry and mini bar LOL
rpcv77 Posted April 20, 2014 #32 Share Posted April 20, 2014 The Diamond (NZ/AUS) was my first Princess cruise and I loved it. Should be even nicer since her recent dry dock, enjoy!
Jodieg Posted April 21, 2014 #33 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Just like Quincytoo, Diamond Princess will always have a special place in my heart. We got married on Diamond Princess and though the ship was lovely. Our entire cruise, especially our wedding day was wonderful. I am so happy to see her again in Australian waters later this year. Sad to see our Wedding Chapel has now gone, and would be interested to see her again with the makeover.
Mapu Posted April 21, 2014 #34 Share Posted April 21, 2014 Not all updates were completed by the time our cruise started. The Japanese Bath House was not open; Casino didn't have new machines, Sterling steakhouse was slightly upgraded but still not at the level of the Crown Grill. There is no International Cafe or Vines Wine Bar which is a shame as there is plenty of room on deck 5 for it. It will be interesting to hear from someone who is currently on the ship. Lintywhite Posted April 24, 2014 #35 Share Posted April 24, 2014 Gail, just saw your comment on the Diamond. I have been waiting to hear from someone who has cruised on her after dry dock and I hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple of questions. We've sailed with Princess several times before but we are sailing on the Diamond later in the year with our adult daughter who is a first time cruiser. She has a few food issues [seafood being one] and I was wondering if the dining room menu includes many Asian style dishes or if it is the 'usual' Princess type dishes? I would love to hear your comments on the shows and entertainment please? Also what are the new boutiques like? My daughter loves to 'shop'. Lastly, I have read several comments on other threads about the downgrading of the bathroom amenities [shampoo, conditioner, shower gel etc] Are they still supplying the individual bottles or do they have the wall dispensers? Thanks for your advice. Jenny
