Rare llarsen Posted January 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2013 Hi, I noticed in the new Europe brochure that on page 5 it lists under VALUE WITHOUT COMPROMISE that it lists shuttle service from ship to city center in many ports a daily value up to $50pp. Does anyone know if this service is included for Livorno? Thank you!
YoHoHo Posted January 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2013 Hi, I noticed in the new Europe brochure that on page 5 it lists under VALUE WITHOUT COMPROMISE that it lists shuttle service from ship to city center in many ports a daily value up to $50pp. Does anyone know if this service is included for Livorno? Thank you! There is a shuttle (the dock area is industrial so no walking and depending on the pier can be further away) Note that the shuttle is from the dock to Livorno itself (usually near the cathedral). From that drop off you can get a bus to the train station and then to Florence, or Pisa or ... Or take a taxi though some report it is hard to get one if not taking for 'tour' though others report it was easy to get one to the train station. Depends on the day and the amount of tourist traffic I assume. If you go on your own do make sure you allow lots of time to get back to Livorno and from the train station to the ship. There were some very good instructions and details for this in the Port of calls section
wp bob Posted February 1, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 1, 2013 We had no problem getting a taxi for 6 people to the train. But the driver kept bargaining for an all day tour. if you depend on the shuttle then buses or taxis you may miss the early train to Florence. no problem with taxis back to the port. Rare llarsen Posted February 1, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted February 1, 2013 We are meeting up with out of state friends on our cruise. They have driven in Italy once before, so we were considering renting a car in Livorno so we could see some other places in addition to Florence. Thank you! tvmovielover Posted February 1, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 1, 2013 When we went to Livorno in 2010 on a cruise, the rental we had arranged ahead of time was waiting for us on the dock and we returned it there (we paid for GPS which helps get to the dock and back easily as well as getting to more than one city). Check it out if you decide on a rental. We got to Pisa fairly early (parking is difficult so check that out if you drive) but there is more to see than the Leaning Tower (all of it interesting) that does take away from time in Florence so you have to decide what you want to see the most. wp bob Posted February 1, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 1, 2013 We rented a car and went to Siena, San Gimignano, and Volterra and had the best time ever exploring and doing some wine tasting. we did not drive into Florence that trip since we had been there several times. wp bob Posted February 1, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 1, 2013 In Apr -June 2012 timeframe there was a long thread compiling all the various shuttles in many ports. It was very useful.T ry a search for it. however most if not all of the shuttles are provided by the port or city tourist office, not by Oceania. there was always a disclaimer that the bus was not operated by the ship. the "great value" is a little misleading but you do save on cabs. Earlier I was searching for that thread with a list of ports. It really should be bumped up so the more ports will be listed. The OP had a great idea but it has slipped into history. I reported to CC that Search, while is available now is not finding some things like even this thread! I did get a reply so hopefully they will get it re-indexed, stapled and folded correctly. If someone does find it please post the link here and hopefully it will get resurrected.
