Vancouver to Seattle by Amtrak?

Recommended Posts

Anyone traveled from Vancouver to Seattle on Amtrak? Wondering if this would be a pleasant scenic trip to take, or if it's just better to fly?

TIA Linda

it's a lovely trip, but obviously much slower than flying. There are only 2 trains a day (the rest are buses), and you do need to get from SEA airport to downtown seattle.

However, as you suggested, it is a very pleasant trip.

Last year we got off the ship at 8am, dropped our luggage at the train station and spent the day at Granville Island, taking the evening train. We really enjoyed the day and the train trip. The train was late so we did not get into Seattle King St Station until after 11pm. We were going to spend a few days in Seattle so being late was not a problem. The early morning train is pretty early! If you are just going to fly home, it most likely will be cheaper to fly out of Seattle than Vancouver.

The Amtrak train is a lovely way to get to Seattle from Vancouver and the train follows the coast nearly the whole way down. Makes crossing the border a breeze. However if you are headed to SEA airport you have to get from the train station in dwontown Seattle to the airport once you arrive. Also the train times are not always the best as there are only 2 trains south 1 early in the morning and the other at approx 6 pm at night getting you to Seattle around about 10pm

More convenient if you are headed to the airport but less scenic is the Quick Shuttle bus ..

Both of the above options are cheaper than a flight to Seattle out of Vancouver
