kingsgirl Posted February 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2013 I was just reading someone's review of a cruise and they mentioned that they were not able to get meat in the MDR that was well done. Is this true?
Mark_K Posted February 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2013 Neither well done nor done well. ;)
kingsgirl Posted February 2, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted February 2, 2013 I've been able to have it before. Is this something that has recently changed? I don't understand? Most places have warnings about eating mean that isn't fully cooked.....
#1packerfan Posted February 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 2, 2013 My DH will not eat beef unless it is totally well done--not a speck of pink--and we have not had any issues when we asked for it that way. He doesn't eat prime rib because that is usually not done enough for him, but has had steak and roast beef several times and just asks for it well, well done. He said it's nice to have someone believe him when he says well done because normally in a restaurant, it comes out pink. Majesty and Serenade for sure he has had well done meat. whataboutport Posted February 2, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 2, 2013 I've usually only seen it come out med rare or well done, but they say the choices are med rare and med well. Last time I said med rare, but they brought mine off the wrong section I guess and it was med well, but it was brown all the way through. That is well done. rjrpar Posted February 2, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 2, 2013 Inexpensive cuts of steak, cooked well, must be awful tough to chew.
kodeman Posted February 2, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 2, 2013 My wife is the same way she orders the top sirloin well done and the filet from chops butterflied well done the never question her they just do it .
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 2, 2013 #10 Share Posted February 2, 2013 Neither well done nor done well. ;) Harsh.... I've never had meat NOT done well on RCCL. I like mine blue..... show it the heat, it's done. RCCL version of rare is well done in my book ;)
Kilroy Posted February 2, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 2, 2013 It seems like I can't find anything but overdone beef when I cruise.
BND Posted February 2, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 2, 2013 I always ask for medium well and it' usually well done. Rarely is it a bit pink. My experience is, outside of most steak houses, medium well can mean well done, or bloody. I can't stand it rare, but a little red is fine. luvscruising2007 Posted February 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted February 3, 2013 In my experience they offer Well done and Medium rare for the Prime rib and the sliced filet. Med Rare is for me close enough to rare that I can eat it. DH orders Med Well and it never has pink. Any thing you order that is not to your satisfaction can be sent back. The waiters are always happy to make sure you are happy.
twinmommy08 Posted February 3, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Oh don't worry. Every beef item I ordered rare came overly cooked and brown in the middle. I would aim for medium if you wanted "we'll done"
linedancer Posted February 3, 2013 #15 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Yes you can get well done. I just got off the Liberty today. My friend had steak 3 times and each time he asked for well done and he really enjoyed it. I don't remember the cut, but the steak served on the second night, Formal night, everyone said it was wonderful. Two people had it rare, one had it well done. Just ask. If you have a good waiter he will get you anything to make you happy. Irene
Jmcphillipsjr Posted February 3, 2013 #16 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Why would anyone order a cut of meat well done?
linedancer Posted February 3, 2013 #17 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Because they can't stand the BLOOD. I hate rare meat. Medium well for me please.
kingsgirl Posted February 3, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Why would anyone order a cut of meat well done? Just like everything else, everyone has their own tastes. I preferred cooked meat.
Beth C Posted February 3, 2013 #19 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I like mine well done... grey almost... burn it if you must. If it looks like it's still moo'ing it should still be in the pasture! Have yet to have the prime rib on board because I don't like my veggies sitting in a bath of blood I have had steak on board many times though... nice and cooked :)
buckirj1 Posted February 3, 2013 #20 Share Posted February 3, 2013 One of my criteria for scoring cruise dining is to see whether or not I can get a steak well done without it turning into shoe leather (yes, it's possible). For what it's worth, RCI utterly failed this test both times I tried. The steak either had some pink or was tough. I hope you have better luck. RCI does many things well (heh!), but steak isn't one of them, at least in my experience.
Ashland Posted February 3, 2013 #21 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I have had no problem getting my meat well done in the MDR and even in the WJ...there they will take it and put it on the grill for me..no problem at all.
Katana_Geldar Posted February 3, 2013 #22 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I've bad no problems getting steak done as I like in Chops or MDR. Only steak-related problem was in Noumea, which is French so they don't even ask you how you like your steak dne, they just serve it rare.
sr4mjc Posted February 3, 2013 #23 Share Posted February 3, 2013 It's not blood though, or very small amounts. It's myoglobin.
Esmerelda Posted February 3, 2013 #24 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I always order my steaks medium on RC and have always been served it medium. I don't like it bloody and I certainly don't like it well done because then it ruins it for me. When we were on the Oasis, one of our table mates sent his steak back 3 times because it wasn't to his liking. On the 4th try, he said it was perfect. All of ours have been great for the record. My point being if you aren't happy with your food, for goodness sake, speak up! I've watched RC bend over backwards to make dinner right for others. sea shepherd Posted February 3, 2013 #25 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I like my food well done. So i tell them to burn it. And if it is not cooked enough i send it back. Never had any problem
