Good Golly Miss Molly Posted February 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2013 Long time lurker (such good information here!), new member/poster. We've noticed that formal wear sometimes differs from one cruise to another, and from one destination to another. We'll be on the Coral to Panama Canal soon, and are wondering what "formal" usually means on this ship/destination. Thank you for your help! We'll be on the Coral to Panama Canal soon, and are wondering what "formal" usually means on this ship/destination. Thank you for your help! Follow the cruise lines guide lines and you won't go wrong. I've seen Tux's on most Princess ships even in the Caribbean and Panama Canal. That said I've seen normal black suits on formal nights. zahav1 Posted February 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2013 Since the Panama Canal cruises are longer, the average age on the ship is older, so older crowd will usually dress up. I've seen many men in tux and some in dark suites, seen everything from gowns to short dresses. As on any other ship, there are who don't dress up at all, and they usually dine at Horizon Court or specialty.
caribill Posted February 7, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2013 As posted above, follow the guidelines and you will not feel out of place. Normally there will be men in a tux, but this will likely be 15% or less of the men. Most will wear a suit. Women can wear a dressy dress, a nice pants suit, or nice slacks with a fancy top. All are appropriate.
Jasperdo Posted February 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2013 My wife and I were on a 15 day Panama Canal cruise on the Coral Princess last year. On formal nights I wore a basic business suit and my wife wore a nice pants suit. We fit right in with the other passengers.
AKman2495 Posted February 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2013 We went through the Canal back in Sept/oct. I was surprised to see how many guys were in tuxes at least 40-50% of the guys who did the MDRs.
shepp Posted February 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2013 The dress code guidelines don't vary from ship to ship or by itinerary. What differs is the percentage of pax who follow the guidelines, and the level of enforcement. If you're planning to dine in the MDR, err on the side of caution. You will never be overdressed. Loonbeam Posted February 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2013 I'd say about 35% tuxes, 45% suits, 15% jacket and tie on our PC run. A few people had more casual clothing in the MDR and while they looked a bit out of place no one said anything and they didn't seem to care.
