Beer outside the gate at Mahogany Bay

No. There is a small store or two down the main road toward Coxen Hole, but the nearest one is at least a mile or two from the "Gate" The grocery stores in Coxen Hole or French Harbor also sell beer, but its a cab ride/fare there and you'll definitely be in the hole $ per beer. The local beer in Roatan (which is mostly all that is available) isn't that expensive even in MBCC.

Taxi are not regulated.. you would be better off to contact several of the tour operators to see if they have a group already going to the beach..more people equals less per person to a point and NO haggling issues.

It takes about 45 minutes to get from Mahognay to West Bay, then if you want loungers or such you see pay a resort day fee. Course if you are just going to sit at a bar and drink.. prolly no need for a lounger.

In the end of all you wish is sand you are prolly better off cost wise at Mahogany, though I guess that depends on how much beer costs and how much you drink. :D

Around 20.00-25.00 p/p, r/t, there goes the budget.:)

I don't understand why anyone would pay a taxi driver a PER PERSON fee ? A tour will be quoted per person but a taxi ride is not UNLESS you are negotiating a taxi for the day. Which is what we did.

We negotiated $15.00 per person for 3 of us FOR THE WHOLE DAY. He took us to West End, waited while we dove, then waited for us while we shopped and had lunch, then took us to West Bay Beach and waited for us while we spent about 2 hrs on the beach and then took us back to the ship.

Now, that is not to say that the taxi drivers won't TRY to charge you 25.00 PER PERSON but they key is to know that you are getting ripped off if you do.

We have visited on land trips as well as cruise stops and we always ask "how much for all of us to ______________? Usually the only time we have been quoted a rip off price is from the cruise pier.......

That sounds like a plan,we are just working class people that have to scrimp and save to take a vacation any money saving ideas will be greatly welcomed.

Another tip is to not take the first taxi after you exit the secure port area. Walk a little ways down and negotiate with that one .... or two.....

We have found that many times there is a ranking order - meaning the ones closest to the gate have "seniority" so if you keep walking and negotiate with one a bit further from the gate they are willing to negotiate a bit better.....

hope this helps

If ya really wanna save and have a bit of adventure in you take a taxi only to Coxen Hole, then the mini bus to West End and the water taxi to West Bay.

And instead of asking one of the waiting taxi at Mahogany Bay, flag a collectivo taxi passing by on the road.

Mind you, there is still the haggle factor with the taxi. The mini bus and water taxi are a set price.
