kceagle Posted February 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2013 I have been unsucessfully been trying to reach Alaska green jeep rentals to reserve jeeps for Skagway. I have tried both their toll free number and their email contact. Has anyone been able to contact them? I believe they are also affiliated with Alaska southeast tours. If anyone has had contact please let me know how you contacted them.

raysongrrl Posted February 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2013 i was in the works with them just two weeks ago, and then it's been all quiet. maybe something personal happened, as it's a husband/wife team, i think? at first they responded very quickly to my inquiries, but a week later i have called all the numbers multiple times, sent an email, and left messages. nothing. i've already reserved my car with avis b/c i don't want to miss out. hope this helps you. injebreck99 Posted February 8, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2013 I have been trying to contact them for weeks from here in the UK, they have only answered one e-mail in months, I'm beginning to think they are not worth bothering about. Any other similar recommended self drive tours please.?
huskyguy Posted February 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2013 Alaska Green Jeeps has new owners as of 2 months ago. Although there are some extras, it's basically just a car rental, the same as Avis or Sourdough.

Snacks, drinks and a CD with mile to mile explanation was great. :)
laurasue Posted February 8, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2013 You can rent from Avis and then download a mile by mile audio guide for your iPod off of iTunes. And the paper version of Murray's Guide is also available online. Our rental car through Avis was much less expensive and we could book online with no hassle. Although we won't get snacks included, it gives us the flexibility to choose lunches we want. Important with a picky preschooler ;)

Might be good to grab a back-up Avis reservation and wait for feedback from the early season cruisers...
kceagle Posted February 9, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Thanks for the responses. We wanted the jeep so that we could go off road but I guess Avis is better than nothing. We have already purchased and received our Murray guide with mile by mile highlights.
tee_harbor Posted February 10, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2013 Thanks for the responses. We wanted the jeep so that we could go off road but I guess Avis is better than nothing. We have already purchased and received our Murray guide with mile by mile highlights. I'm curious about your expectations for 'off-roading' in Alaska. I'll bet that you'll find the roads around Skagway better than your roads back home. :D And just driving off the road at some random spot that catches your eye will probably result in a ticket! I thought I'd seen in the past that the escorted tours have a spot where drivers are allowed to root around in a muddy spot for a few feet. I do assume this company allows you to take the jeep to Dyea, which I consider a very good drive, and Avis does not. It is a dirt, gravel road, but very well maintained. I think the issue is the drops with no guardrail. My father went off one back in 1964 and they still haven't put up rails. If your plan is to just drive up the highway, I don't think it's worth it. I've not found jeeps to be that comfortable, and as others have said, you can get the mile by mile guide either online from Murray or free from any store in Skagway as a take-away paper sheet, and snacks are available at the stores. GNPTrekker Posted February 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 12, 2013 I called a few times during business hours and got the answering machine, I didn’t leave a message as I wasn’t going to be home for a call back, I then went through the “Reservation Form” on their internet site with no response for a week, week & half. So I decided to call and leave a message one morning before work knowing it would be about 05:30AM Alaska time and to my surprise Heath answered and took my reservation. All went smooth after that, we talked for a bit about the jeeps and the area, seemed like a nice guy and we’re happy we got the reservation. Keep trying, I think exploring on our own schedule is going to be awesome!

I've tried the toll free # and the regular # as well as emailing them. No response. I already have a car reserved from Avis but this sounded like a lot of fun. Now, I'm very skeptical about this company. I hear they recently merged with another company. If they won't answer their phones, what happens if there is a mechanical breakdown while out on the road? You're screwed. Plus, they expect full payment at the time of the booking. I don't like the idea of paying in full then not having the ability to call and speak to someone if necessary. What if I have to cancel? No one there to take the call? No thanks...bad business as far as I'm concerned.
YukonHeath Posted February 13, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 13, 2013 My name is Heath Goebel, and my wife and I are the new owners of Alaska Green Jeeps. We also own one of the oldest tour companies in skagway called Southeast Tours. I have been coming up to Skagway for over 22 years, and my wife and I pride ourselves on giving excellent customer service to our cruise ship clients. As the new owner of the jeep company, we have kept all of the great tools and services that the prior owners had. We still offer a narrated DVD, maps of the area, CB's in each jeep, and bottled water and snacks. So, rest assured you will have the same great experience with your jeep rental this year that others had last year. As far as the delays in getting back to people in the off season, we apologize for this inconvenience. The last few weeks we were in the process of moving, and as anyone knows that is a crazy time. As of today, I can happily announce our winter office has been put back together. From now on there should not be no more delays in making bookings. Our one regret is that we didn't post something on the website letting people know we would be hard to get a hold of during this transition period. We did try to send emails and calls out but our efforts were sporadic. We value our customers, and we guarantee immediate response to any inquiry from this point forward. Thank you for your patience and your future patronage. Sincerely, Heath & Jaime Goebel :) Owners Alaska Green Jeeps

luvlake Posted February 13, 2013 #19 Share Posted February 13, 2013 Last year when we used Alaska Green Jeep Rentals we were picked up at the ship and taken downtown to fill out paper work. Then taken to the jeep and were on our way. When finished the jeep was filled up with gas and was left in the parking lot next to the ship. Is this the way you are running the service this year? If made for a very easy transition.:)

YukonHeath Posted February 13, 2013 #21 Share Posted February 13, 2013 Our office is located 4 blocks from the ship. You can either take a 10 minute walk to our office, or if it's raining you can take the city shuttle. The shuttle cost $2 and picks up every 5 minutes from your ship. When you arrive at our office we will have you sign paperwork, we will give you the keys, and we will provide you a courtesy shuttle to drop you off at your jeep. Once you are done with your tour, simply fill the jeep up with gas and park it where you picked it up. We will then provide you another courtesy shuttle back to the ship. YukonHeath Posted February 13, 2013 #22 Share Posted February 13, 2013 A jeep rental is an All Day rental. You can pick the jeep up at 7:30am and you need to drop it off one hour before the ship requires you to be back on board.
Debitoo Posted February 14, 2013 #23 Share Posted February 14, 2013 I finally heard from Heath yesterday. They don't have any 4 door Jeeps available. With 4 of us, (2 being teenagers), a 2 door jeep will not be a good fit for us. We are on a "wait list" in case someone cancels. Glad we booked a car with Avis!
