bamelin Posted February 13, 2013 #26 Share Posted February 13, 2013 If either of you have sailed on Princess or RCCL, how would you say the food compares (MDR and Buffet)?
americanmama Posted February 13, 2013 #27 Share Posted February 13, 2013 hey, thanks for the review/info...dh and I are looking to book the Magic this year, thinking of trying an interior, so will be looking for a good place to hang out on deck..you said that the rear on deck 9, 10, 11 are best...do you mean in the serenity area, or the aft of the ship? Also, did you try or see the rope course? thanks!
Jenny in TX Posted February 13, 2013 #28 Share Posted February 13, 2013 We just got off of the Magic on Sunday also. We had an amazing time! There were 8 of us and we had not one complaint. The food in the MDR was very good. We ate in the steakhouse one night and it was very good also, but just too much food! The formal nights were Monday and Thursday(Grand Cayman). How formal was the dress on the formal nights in the MDR? We are sailing in August for the first time on Carnival with family (DD, DSL, DGD) that have never cruised and they have asked. So glad you had a great cruise and thanks in advance for the help, Bookfinder You will see people in just about everything on formal nights. I wore a very nice dress but it wasn't a "formal" dress. We had a group of 8 and the men were in everything from suits, to slacks & a dress shirt and all looked very handsome. All the ladies were in dresses except for one that wore slacks and a nice blouse. The formals that I saw were short. I tend to dress up for dinner every night in either a dress or slacks & a nice blouse.
Jenny in TX Posted February 13, 2013 #29 Share Posted February 13, 2013 If either of you have sailed on Princess or RCCL, how would you say the food compares (MDR and Buffet)? I have only every cruised Carnival so I have nothing to compare it to. We are hoping to book one of the big RCCL ships next year, but it is so convenient to drive 30 minutes to Galveston and hop on the Magic!

russandcheryl Posted February 13, 2013 #31 Share Posted February 13, 2013 Americanmama .... yes the rear of the ship - they have chair/ottomans and it is quiet as the waterworks is near the front... Serenity is ok too for the comfy furniture but can be noisy from the a/c vents and u can see/hear the line up for the water slide. Did not do the rope course but it looks like fun - ... never a long line up .... We cruises RCL Oasis last Sept and that SHIP is amazing .... food was comparable but more choices at they have 25 restaurants - the quality of entertainment was first class - Cirque Style and Broadway productions - of course the price was more and we had to fly to port. Loved the Oasis !!! Magic is close to Home and less expensive.

rjackieb Posted February 15, 2013 #33 Share Posted February 15, 2013 Just returning from Carnival Magic, any questions? Will post review later!! Which dining room did you have? On our recent sailing on Magic, we had Southern Lights. The waiter who sang every night was wonderful! My sister is going with me in March and is a smoker. Can you tell me if you know places/locations where she can smoke? Your balcony, if you have a non-spa balcony cabin, the starboard side of the open deck, one side of the casino and casino bar, and a few other bars on the ship. The permitted locations are mentioned in the daily Fun Times.

rjackieb Posted February 15, 2013 #35 Share Posted February 15, 2013 MVoelker -- One tip: I don't like the ashtrays provided on the cabin balcony, especially if it's a bit breezy, so we bring self-extinguishing ashtrays (Butt Buckets) on all vacations. You can find them at most Walmarts in the cigarette checkout lane.
dude_hdt Posted February 15, 2013 #36 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I have only every cruised Carnival so I have nothing to compare it to. We are hoping to book one of the big RCCL ships next year, but it is so convenient to drive 30 minutes to Galveston and hop on the Magic! My exact thoughts. As you can see from my signature, I've made extensive use of being near Galveston. We had talked about RCCL from FL on the ships with Wave Rider and zip line but ended up booking Magic for June. Hopefully, Magic still has the new ship looks like when we sail her on her first year.
dude_hdt Posted February 15, 2013 #37 Share Posted February 15, 2013 Please tell me more about the $99 unlimited internet. Is this per day or for the whole cruise? Is the speed comparable to 802.11b at least? I'm interested since my wife works from home thru internet connection. It would be great if she can put in a few hours a day and not burn vacation time which she doesn't have much of. Outside of office hours, she can still enjoy the ship. sarahlfiles Posted February 15, 2013 #38 Share Posted February 15, 2013 Hello everyone :) I have been searching these boards and ZydecoCruisers site for a couple of hours and haven't found the answers to a few remaining questions. This is our first 7-day cruise (have been on 2 4-days Ecstasy/Triumph) and first time on a 'newer' ship. We were scheduled for Triumph on 3/11, but switched to Magic 3/10 when our cruise was cancelled!. If anyone can help with my questions, great. And please excuse me if I missed all these answers elsewhere!! Can you order room service through TV or do you still have to call it in? Is the Steakhouse open for lunch or only for dinner? Is the comedy club larger than on other Carnival ships? (I remember we had to get to comedy shows about 30-45 mins early to get a seat) The comedy shows are our favorite! Is the Italian and Steakhouse restaurants priced per menu item or pp? Any excursion recommendations for quiet beach day in Bahamas? Any tips or secrets (quiet corners, must-do's) for the Magic? Any services you would recommend for the spa? We have booked a spa cabin so we have access to thermal rooms and thalasso pool, but wondering if any services are well worth it? Thanks in advance for your replies! We are so excited we can't hardly stand it! I LOVE reading all the reviews. Sarah
petro772 Posted February 15, 2013 #39 Share Posted February 15, 2013 We haven't been on the Magic yet but have been doing extensive research for our upcoming trip. I believe the hot dog stand is on the sports deck and the BBQ is done on sea days from deck 5. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD You sound ready to sail! ;)

cjefffg24 Posted February 18, 2013 Author #42 Share Posted February 18, 2013 $99 for the entire cruise, not sure on the speed. There were a few times I couldn't get on, or had trouble getting a connect. I checked FB, email, etc. Didn't really do a whole lot on it. What I did do seem to work fairly fast Please tell me more about the $99 unlimited internet. Is this per day or for the whole cruise? Is the speed comparable to 802.11b at least?
