RuthlessBoss Posted February 11, 2013 #176 Share Posted February 11, 2013 I really don't see how ANYTHING good comes from a cruise ship becoming stranded in the middle of the ocean. One that has had several months of propulsion issues that PROBABLY should have been addressed with finality. Yeah....staff CAN and often DO make the best of a bad situation. Lost vacation time can never be replaced. You, like some other readers (on other subjects) put your own spin on my remark. I never said that anything good happenedon Splendor. I said there were positive remarks of how they were taken care of. One such person has already come on this thread and spoke of it.

Knuclehead Posted February 11, 2013 #178 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Any news about the fire on triumph? Running on generators now. Gonna be late getting back. Sucks if you we're next to board. Sssshame on you Carnival .
BeagleOne Posted February 11, 2013 #179 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Thanks for the reminder to bring a good flashlight on my upcoming cruise. and baby wipes. Definitely! My last cruise I had a little pocket flashlight that would have sufficed to navigate in the dark, and a bigger maglite in my cabin for longer-term use. I suppose the default door lock setting for cabins when the power is out is "unlocked"?
Cruise Cat Posted February 11, 2013 #180 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Depending on the fire extinguishing system, it can do more long term damage than the fire due to corrosive chemicals. There is a possibility, they will have a lot of things to clean up in the engine room and a lot of things to replace.
RuthlessBoss Posted February 11, 2013 #181 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Sssshame on you Carnival . For not getting back on time? If this was a joke remark, please put a smiley in your post.:D:p:)

Rare jimbo5544 Posted February 11, 2013 #183 Share Posted February 11, 2013 This is the Triumph or the Splendor? That was fast! I was referring to the Splendor.
nonna5 Posted February 11, 2013 #184 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Definitely! My last cruise I had a little pocket flashlight that would have sufficed to navigate in the dark, and a bigger maglite in my cabin for longer-term use. I suppose the default door lock setting for cabins when the power is out is "unlocked"? I think the cabin door locks are battery operated. I know on one ship I was on the cabin steward had to change the batteries on my door lock. He noticed the light flashing and said the batteries needed to be changed and went to the supply cabinet to get them. Prayers to everyone on the ship and who have friends/family on the ship. It does appear Carnival is doing the right thing by the passengers on the ship and future cruises also.
jgomila198101 Posted February 11, 2013 #185 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Where did you receive this information? My family is leaving on Saturday on a back to back on this ship so we are wondering if their cruise will still sail. My sister and friends on the ship have been texting but they just lost service again. Also i am set as her emergency contact so carnival has called to confirm they will be flown from progreso to Galveston. I don't think she has a passport on her but i am sure it will all work out

wanderingjew Posted February 11, 2013 #188 Share Posted February 11, 2013 The Passengers are being flown from Progreso where the ship is being towed to. I wonder what will happen to the people without passports? CARNIVAL TRIUMPH - Update February 10, 2013 – 7.30PM EST This morning the cruise ship Carnival Triumph experienced an engine room fire while the vessel was sailing approximately 150 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. The ship’s automatic fire extinguishing systems activated and the fire was contained to the aft engine room. At this time, the fire is fully extinguished. There were no casualties or injuries to guests or crew. All appropriate authorities including U.S. Coast Guard have been notified. The vessel is currently without propulsion and the ship is operating on emergency generator power. The ship's technical crew has determined the vessel will need to be towed to port. A tugboat is en route to the ship's location and will tow the vessel to Progreso, Mexico, which is the closest port to the ship’s current location. This will enable us to disembark guests and get them home as quickly as possible. The ship is expected to arrive in Progreso Wednesday afternoon and guests will be flown from there back to the U.S. There are 3,143 guests and 1,086 crew on board. Guests are being provided with food and refreshments. Another Carnival ship, the Carnival Elation, is currently on scene and transferring additional food and beverage provisions to the Carnival Triumph. We have contacted the designated emergency contacts for all guests presently on board Carnival Triumph. Concerned family and loved ones of guests and crew may call 888.290.5095 or 305.406.5534. All guests on the current Carnival Triumph voyage will receive a full refund of the cruise, along with transportation expenses. In addition, they will receive a future cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage, as well as reimbursement of all shipboard purchases during the voyage, with the exception of gift shop and casino charges. The next two voyages of Carnival Triumph, scheduled to depart Monday, February 11 and Saturday, February 16 are being cancelled. Guests scheduled to sail on either of those voyages will receive a full refund, reimbursement for non-refundable travel expenses and a 25 percent discount on a future three to five-day cruise. Carnival is in contact with impacted guests to advise them of the situation. The current Carnival Triumph voyage departed Galveston, Texas on Thursday, February 7 and was scheduled to return on Monday, Feb. 11.

Rare jimbo5544 Posted February 11, 2013 #192 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Heaven forbid the cruiseline hold any responsibility in maintaining their fleet. I could understand your response had the OP been responsible for not being able to cruise, but for a passenger who did nothing wrong...nope. Carnival's fault, they should be held accountable. put the blame where it lies. customers should not have to cover the burden. the cruise line should...and especially if this is a repeat. Past experience tells you that Carnival is second to none is handling this type of incident (Splendor as example). I don't think anyone has said otherwise. There have been other cruiselines who have been lagging in their responses to this type of thing (several come to mind). I Am sure you have evidence that they are negligent in maintaining their fleet.....
Raven Days Posted February 11, 2013 #193 Share Posted February 11, 2013 They will be flown back with the others. Our embassy in Mexico is I am sure well aware of the situation and will be on hand to assist those with out passports. They will make sure they are back in the US along with the others. They will probably issue temp passports.

msmayor Posted February 11, 2013 #199 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Its probably no different than anyone else that requires an emergency passport to get home. There may be added paperwork for them, possibly fees too...but they will eventually be processed with the right documentation to get home.
DGP1111 Posted February 11, 2013 #200 Share Posted February 11, 2013 HMM towed to Progresso,Mx, what about those people who still dont have a passport & cruise only on the birth certificate??? Fingers crossed for all:confused: That also came into play when there was consideration of towing Carnival Splendor into Mexico (a shorter distance) rather than back to California. It will take more time for some than others concerning their return to 'home plate'. .
