ib4cruzn Posted February 15, 2013 #5126 Share Posted February 15, 2013 Interesting that some consider the on-scene USCG captain's professional opinion wrong. Yup, because *I* didn't read all the posts either. LOL! Forgive me while I take pause, hug my children, and thank the good Lord they're normal... Rasvar Posted February 15, 2013 #5127 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I'm sorry. I feel bad for everyone in this situation but this just hit my funny bone. I needed a good laugh. Thanks.

kylenyc Posted February 15, 2013 #5129 Share Posted February 15, 2013 CNN live interview with 16 year old Haley who started to cry for a moment before composing herself. Poor thing. :( I wonder if people will remember the distress some people faced on this cruise when they decide on whether to take children who are too young to even remember a vacation or recent pregnant women debating on how to skirt the 24 week rule needless to mention the normal challenges of avoiding norovirus and flu. Apparently 10 cruises suffered disabling problems last year. Yes not all on Carnival and statistically low but it can happen.
ssnewbie Posted February 15, 2013 #5130 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I really, really hope that Carnival gives bonuses to the crew. They are the unsung heroes in this mess.
DryCreek Posted February 15, 2013 #5131 Share Posted February 15, 2013 So CNN is the villain in this story? I'm readIng the oddest conclusions tonight. I think that maybe the point missed is the use of sensationalist-style headlines designed to tease in viewers. The level of journalism they are using would best be compared to the national Enquirer and the televised tabloids like Extra! and TMZ. A news reporter or his/her network should show impartiality and just present facts, not libelous jabs. The conditions are unsanitary in places. Many people are having to cope with living outside of their normal comfort zones. Due to physical limitations or other health issues, some passengers may be in extreme distress. Is the ship really a petri dish? I didn't notice any agar in any of the pictures, but it could have been obscured due to poor lighting or the waves upon waves of human excrement...... Rare broberts Posted February 15, 2013 #5133 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I disagree. A Chinook has a 450 mile range. The National Guard would have provided one, and sent the bill to CCL. Not sure its as simple as finding a helicopter with the required range and payload capability. National Guard units flying CH47 may not have any experience delivering heavy items to powerless commercial ships at sea? USCG has an awful lot of experience doing this sort of thing. But that experience may not be found in combination with CH47 qualifications.

Apparently 10 cruises suffered disabling problems last year. Yes not all on Carnival and statistically low but it can happen. It is funny, I would swear they interviewed Haley earlier today around noon and she was 10 and her friend was 12, one was wearing yellow coat the other red/pink sweat shirt (that is how the CNN reporter identified them) now she is 16 (I heard this interview also when she cried) I have also heard several times this evening that there are showers (cold) but showers for them to use and much better food. I still don't understand how the passengers and family at home have managed to clear their phone contact list, and forgot their phone numbers, So all the could do was call CNN to get in touch with their family. It is a good thing CNN plays Telephone operator.

dclark Posted February 15, 2013 #5141 Share Posted February 15, 2013 The USCG should ground the ccl fleet- prohibit them from leaving a U.S. port until each ship and its logs, are inspected. Passenger safety should come first.

Even the Chinooks that are used in forest fire have very expensive modifications done to do this job. It is not like you can land it on the ship. Once you were within range of many of coastal oil rigs, there were a lot more facilities available since the proper equipment and crews were available since these kind of transfers happen with the offshore oil rigs. waldocruiser1 Posted February 15, 2013 #5144 Share Posted February 15, 2013 I am wondering, Does/did the Triumph have FTTF, Faster to the Fun? If it did, do those passengers get to get off the ship first? Or do they loose that privilege because they got the refund?
