lidorose Posted February 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2013 Has anyone cruised over Christmas Day? We are looking at several Danube itineraries, and I wasn't sure if cruising on Christmas Day would essentially be a "lost" day if things are closed for the holiday. germanyboy Posted February 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2013 We were on a Grand Circle cruise, arriving in Cologne Germany on Christmas Eve, in time for the midnight Masss at the Cathedral, and staying overnight to Christmas day. On Christmas Morning, Groups went off and had a walking tour around the square, into the cathedral, and neighborhoods as far as to the cologne original factory. Train station was open, and all the shops, bars, and restaurants were open. Lots of city people walking around. We spent 3-4 hours out and about, and back to the ship for lunch, and departure for next stop.
Rare steamboats Posted February 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2013 Shops are not open on Christmas Day in Germany and the same for Dec 26th. Both are nationwide holidays. The only shops you may have seen open are those in the train station building which are exempted (train stations and airports, but usually travel purpose goods only). steamboats
