Radiance - what indoor areas are smokey on US sailings?

Hi,

1. Not wanting to start another smokers versus non smokers thread, so lets please try & not go there.:)

2. This is specific to RADIANCE ONLY please on US sailings only.

Please don't reply with your experiences on other ships as is this will not help answer my questions. Thanks.:):)

I'm sailing on Radiance later this year in Alaska, Hawaii & Repositioning to Sydney & I know the smoking rules are different than when we sail out of Australia.

I sailed on Radiance last year from Sydney were there is ZERO smoking indoors anywhere & all smoking is confined to cabin balconies or the designated outdoor deck areas - starboard pool deck & the pool/sky bar I think.

But I have heard on US sailings people are allowed to smoke inside in 'part' of the Casino & some bars etc as well as the same outdoor areas as mentioned?

Now being someone whose nose blocks immediately & the inevitable sinus headache, watery eyes etc follows, if I even get a wiff of smoke, same with some perfumes etc, I'm looking for a heads up on the areas within Radiance that WILL be smoky DESPITE them NOT being designated smoking areas.

So I can make an effort to avoid these places & have a more pleasant holiday.

We all know smoke doesn't stop at the designated non smoking dividing line, so I'm assuming walking through the casino as you need to do to get from the theatre to the schooner bar for example (without having to change decks) I can expect to smell smoke, but will this impact on the nearby champagne bar for example?

How about the Centrum on the casino deck?

What other indoor venues do they allow smoking in & how do they impact on surrounding 'non smoking' areas?

Could someone who is a non smoker who is sensitive to smoke & has been on Radiance sailing out of the US give me some feedback on this?

If smoke doesn't bother you then you may not know what I mean, but for those of us that are sensitive to it then it can be a real downer to feel like you have a constant head cold etc when you are on holidays.

This is a real concern for me & I had already booked my cruises before I realised the rules were different for US sailings.

I don't want to change to Celebrity who I believe is non smoking as I am still only a gold C&A member so don't get reciprocal benefits, plus it's more expensive & also I've heard has an older demographic in general.

Also, will the Alaska cruise late August be more smokey indoors due to the cooler weather than the Hawaii, repositioning cruises?

Thanks for any feedback.:)

You do realize that there are Australians who smoke as well? In answer to your question, the same outside places will be smoking, including, of course balconies. The very back of the Colony Club. The casino, except on formal nights....and hopefully, part of the pub, since the casino will be non-smoking on formal nights.

We were on the Radiance last year, August 10-17, on the southbound route.

The weather was very pleasant and mild, except in the Hubbard Glacier area which was rather cool. We wore windbreakers and knit caps.

As mentioned before, there are certain areas where smoking is allowed.

Alaska is beautiful. Enjoy your cruise.

Hi,

I never implied Australians don't smoke did I? That wasn't my intention. All I said was that on US sailings the smoking rules are different than sailings out of Australian ports (due to our much stricter smoking laws).:)

People that smoke come from all Nationalities, although I'm hoping that on the repo cruise back to Sydney there will be a lot of Australians & those that do smoke will be used to our stricter smoking laws, so they will not light up inside as readily.

I'm disappointed to hear the Colony club has smoking in it as that means a good part if will smell of smoke I would imagine, unless RCCL has a mega suction vent directly above the smokers.

When you say the very back area, do you mean the whole width of the back of the ship, or one side of the back of the bar area?

If there is smoking in the pub it is so small that I will have to rule that out as well because the smoke will probably drift to the non smoking section & combined with casino smoke may well also filter into the walkway area directly outside the 2?

Is the formal night ban on smoking only in the casino or the colony club as well?

Also, why do they do this on formal nights specificially?

Hoping some non smokers sensitive to smoke will be able to confirm how much smoke drift occurs into non smoking areas.

I don't have any issues with people smoking, I just know that there is no such thing as a part of a venue being non smoking when there is smoking in another part of the same open area venue. Smoke does not follow the rules even if smokers do.:(

Thanks.

Hi,

How did you find the smoking impacted on inside areas on the Alaska cruise then? Have you been on the ship on different destinations that you can compare?

Thanks.

I answered your question. You, yourself, said you didn't want to turn it into a debate. You have been informed of the locations that allow smoking under US rules. The formal night ban is only in the casino. The Colony Club is very large venue. It should not impact your experience.

Hi Coralc,

Huh!? There has been no debate in my initial post & responses, no bagging of smokers etc, but your intial reply started with suggesting I didn't think Australians smoked, when I never said anything to that effect & now your second reply is more or less telling me I should be happy with your reply & that my questions have been answered - end of story?

If you read my initial post in full, you will see the questions applying to smoke drift are integral to my post & although you have mentioned areas that smoking is allowed, & I thank you for that, you have not commented on where smoke drift can be smelt.

If you are a smoker I would understand that you would not be able to identify such areas, so that is why I also said specifically in my initial post that I was after the experiences of people like myself who are non smokers & who also have a sensitivity to second hand smoke.

This is still unanswered.

I am not after a debate, so I kindly request anyone who is not happy with my questions to refrain from replying if their intention is to create debate as to the reality of a non smokers physical reactions to smoke, or question my desire to know where on the ship I will find smoke drift, or to just discuss smoking either for or against - other than how it applies to my questions.

I REPEAT, this is not about the pros & cons of smoking, this is about detailed info regards where on Radiance indoor smoking areas are situated on US sailings & more specifically, if smoke drift from those areas inside the ship may impact on someone with smoking sensitivity in designated non smoking areas adjacent or near to smoking areas.

It is not some conspiracy thread against smokers so please don't turn it into one.

Thank You.:)
