Did that email mention that CCL will reimburse the U.S. govt for costs incurred escorting the Triumph and sending helicopters with supplies?

So anytime the US Coast Guard helps out in an emergency you want them to be paid for it? They are a branch of our military. That is their job.

Not sure why you're raising this in this thread.

In any case, USCG is a public service and should not seek reimbursement... unless, the investigation finds there gross was negligence involved. Otherwise, it is part of their mission to protect life at sea.

It really is quite simple. CCL's foreign flagging of ships allows them to avoid paying the U.S. taxes. When their ships crap out, it costs the U.S. taxpayer. It has happened twice.

Now, there is nothing stopping CCL from sending the U.S. Treasury a check for reimbursement.

If CCL wants to say it is sorry, they should send a check to the U.S. Treasury, not a mass email which is not even worth a postage stamp.

Next time one of their ships take a dump, let the Mexican govt take care of it (it was in their waters) and if that's not enough, send out a call for additional assistance from their friends in the Bahamas.

The ship was in international waters, not the Mexican waters. Three miles from shore is where international waters begin. They were 150 miles out from land. Just saying.

Absolutely. Since she was in international waters, the UN should have responded with tugs and assistance.

In THAT version of reality, after two weeks of heated debate in the General Assembly and grudging approval by the Security Council, the tugs would be getting to Carnival Triumph.....right about now. ;)

True, and they might. It would be a kind gesture, but it's not necessary.

A Mexican tug DID respond.

STILL no letter from Gerry. If I don't get one, I shall be, in the words of Prince Humperdink in The Princess Bride, Very Put Out. :)
