cruzn buckeye Posted February 23, 2013 #127 Share Posted February 23, 2013 I have been on 24 cruises, did not get the letter, but that is okay. I watched him on tv when he was in Mobile, and see him as being very sincere. I am sure he felt for the passengers and crew that went through this. dclark Posted February 24, 2013 #134 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Did that email mention that CCL will reimburse the U.S. govt for costs incurred escorting the Triumph and sending helicopters with supplies?
Georgiagolfer Posted February 24, 2013 #135 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Did that email mention that CCL will reimburse the U.S. govt for costs incurred escorting the Triumph and sending helicopters with supplies? Reimburse for what, that's what our gov't does in any disaster?
MrPete Posted February 24, 2013 #136 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Reimburse for what, that's what our gov't does in any disaster? What about incidents like pooping in red bags? I wonder what would have happened if a Costa ship caught the end of Long Island.
deborahjo Posted February 24, 2013 #137 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Did that email mention that CCL will reimburse the U.S. govt for costs incurred escorting the Triumph and sending helicopters with supplies? So anytime the US Coast Guard helps out in an emergency you want them to be paid for it? They are a branch of our military. That is their job. drewlin Posted February 24, 2013 #138 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Both my husband and myself had our emails a few days ago. We have only sailed once before with Carnival although our second is booked for this October.

dwjoe Posted February 24, 2013 #140 Share Posted February 24, 2013 Did that email mention that CCL will reimburse the U.S. govt for costs incurred escorting the Triumph and sending helicopters with supplies? Not sure why you're raising this in this thread. In any case, USCG is a public service and should not seek reimbursement... unless, the investigation finds there gross was negligence involved. Otherwise, it is part of their mission to protect life at sea.
dclark Posted February 24, 2013 #141 Share Posted February 24, 2013 So anytime the US Coast Guard helps out in an emergency you want them to be paid for it? They are a branch of our military. That is their job. It really is quite simple. CCL's foreign flagging of ships allows them to avoid paying the U.S. taxes. When their ships crap out, it costs the U.S. taxpayer. It has happened twice. Now, there is nothing stopping CCL from sending the U.S. Treasury a check for reimbursement. If CCL wants to say it is sorry, they should send a check to the U.S. Treasury, not a mass email which is not even worth a postage stamp. Next time one of their ships take a dump, let the Mexican govt take care of it (it was in their waters) and if that's not enough, send out a call for additional assistance from their friends in the Bahamas. The ship was in international waters, not the Mexican waters. Three miles from shore is where international waters begin. They were 150 miles out from land. Just saying. Pellaz Posted February 26, 2013 #144 Share Posted February 26, 2013 Absolutely. Since she was in international waters, the UN should have responded with tugs and assistance. In THAT version of reality, after two weeks of heated debate in the General Assembly and grudging approval by the Security Council, the tugs would be getting to Carnival Triumph.....right about now. ;) It really is quite simple. CCL's foreign flagging of ships allows them to avoid paying the U.S. taxes. When their ships crap out, it costs the U.S. taxpayer. Next time one of their ships take a dump, let the Mexican govt take care of it (it was in their waters) and if that's not enough, send out a call for additional assistance from their friends in the Bahamas. A Mexican tug DID respond. ----- meanwhile, back in non-troll land... ---- STILL no letter from Gerry. If I don't get one, I shall be, in the words of Prince Humperdink in The Princess Bride, Very Put Out. :)
deborahjo Posted February 26, 2013 #145 Share Posted February 26, 2013 Big difference between Mexican waters and international waters like said above. The Triumph was in the later so it was a CC issue.
