AIDA ship in Bahamas

We saw an AIDA ship next to us in port in Nassau, Bahamas the other day. Is it German? One thing we noticed is there were hardly any kids on board. Maybe it was a long cruise. I wonder what was on their itinerary?

yes, Aida Cruises is a german company which belongs to Carnival Corp.

 

Their ships are marketed in german-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) only, with only a very few passengers from other countries. Only official language on board is german. most crew and some passengers can gat along in english, but it is highly recommended to get along in german as a passenger to avoid any language-related isolation.

 

You have seen Aida Aura, one of the the three smaller and slightly older ships of Aida Cruises (out of 10 ships in total actually). Aida Aura was built in 2003. The complete itinerary (14 days in total, includings days at sea) was: La Romana (Dominican Rep.) - Montego Bay (Jamaica) - George Town (Grand Cayman) - Roatan (Honduras) - Belize City (Belize) - Cozumel (Mexico) - Key West - Miami - Nassau (Bahamas) - Samana (Dominican Rep.) - La Romana.

 

We did this itinerary last november and enjoyed.

 

You would not have seen many children because at this time of the year there are no school holidays in Germany. And, even that they have special prices for children and youngsters up to 24 yoa (3rd and 4th bed for a fixed low rate as well as a rebate of up to 35 % for lower beds if applicable), the flight portion from/to Europe is still cost intensive for families with kids. Number of children is significantly higher at Aida Cruises european itenararies and will explode during school holidays.

Couple of my friends from Russia & Ukraine cruised with AIDA. They had kids with them. Everybody had a great time, but it is a different concept, not traditional cruising. For example there is no free MDR, but there is wonderful buffet with beer & wine included. There is no traditional theater, but entertainment in atrium was nice, plus laser show on the Lido deck.
