scrapncruz Posted February 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 26, 2013 When we were in Scotland last year there were many No Fee ATMs around. Does Athens have these?
Rare Hlitner Posted February 26, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2013 Many European ATMs charge no fees on cash withdrawals. The issue for many folks is their own bank who may or may not charge a fee. Nearly all ATM withdrawals are subject to a 1% foreign exchange fee which is actually imposed as a deduction from the wholesale rate of exchange. The reality is that there is no better way to get cash since any other type of cash exchange involves higher fees and/or commissions. Hank
maryann ns Posted February 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2013 I never ran into ATMs with fees in Europe. Your own bank's fees are another matter. Since you are American, you can get some no fee for foreign withdrawal accounts.
Islandgirl4242 Posted February 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2013 If your US bank is part of the Global Alliance and use those ATMs (usually the major banks in that country) in Europe you should receive no usage fees from the ATM you use or from your bank. We just returned from AUS and NZ and used ATMs with no fees and better exchange rates. Call your bank and see what they advise. ~~Judy
