rumpelstiltskin Posted February 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2013 We booked the cruise shore excursion to the crater lakes, and on the way back the tour stops at a hotel for wine and cheese tasting. Will local wines be offered to purchase at this tasting? I can't imagine that an opportunity to sell something to tourists would be wasted. Many thanks. timetravler Posted February 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 27, 2013 I'm far from being a expert and I do not know a thing about this port but living in the Napa Valley, I know this is always the case here. If wine is offered at a hotel it is doing so with the main purpose of selling the wine they pour. So, do hope that is the case on your tour. Astro Flyer Posted February 27, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 27, 2013 If they don't offer wine you enjoy, we recently got wine across the street from the Ponta Delgada pier.
rumpelstiltskin Posted February 27, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted February 27, 2013 Thank you both for your quick replies. I'll check out the pier wine shop. Portuguese wine is legendary, and I would think that the Azores would be an optimal wine growing area.
pedirn Posted February 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2013 We took this tour in 2011. The wine tasting is held in at the end of the tour to the lakes. It is held in a large room with chairs around the edges of the room. Tables in the middle of the room held bread and cheese. Wine was at other tables. Really was not what I expected. I liked some of the wine but not others. Wine was available for purchase. You then had the option of walking back to the ship through the town and shops or taking the bus back. I wish you better weather than we had.....rainy, windy day.
