Thanks OP! I had booked a VE guarentee (first ever balcony) and got an email yesterday for an upgrade to a suite. Said "no thanks" since it was $400 each. But after reading this thread I called the upgrade phone number and said I had a friend (we're all friends on CruiseCritic!) who got upgraded from an oceanview to a VA on the Rotterdam deck and wasn't I going to get a balcony of similiar quality? So now I'm in 7043 right next door to the Penthouse which I figure has to be a good location! I was going to have been thrilled with any balcony but I'm glad to not be right over the lifeboats and I understand that VA balconies are bigger than VE. The moral: it never hurts to ask and read CruiseCritic.
