startwin Posted March 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2013 I know I have a sad life.... no sailaway and I'm watching the webcam while having lunch. But it's been fascinating this past half hour, seems like some disaster has happened with unloading a cargo ship. Lots of standing around and discussing options, then someone attempts to tug with a long rope,,, unfortunately no chatter to tell what's going on. Anyone else know? KNOT2L82SAIL Posted March 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2013 From what I read, the cargo on that ship shifted while they were at sea. That is all I know. and... I am right there with the sad life...or better...no life.

IRL_Joanie Posted March 5, 2013 #5 Share Posted March 5, 2013 ATLANTIC TRADER docked in Port Everglades after a cargo shift at sea on 3/4/2013. They sent out a distress call yesterday when the problem ap[parently started. The Marine Radio was quite busy as the Miami Sector Coast Guard searched for the vessel. Hard to imagine them having a difficult time, but then again seems quite small when in a large body of water. They were bound for Guantanamo, Cuba. I took a snap shot of it this morning as a Black & White (Police?) car and lots of people in Hard Hats and Safety Vests were I guess waiting for the Coast Guard to take photos and clear it for unloading. It is neat what we are able to see and hear thanks to Lou and Dave!! Joanie

metairiegal Posted March 5, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Link from our local Fort Lauderdale newspaper: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/broward/fort-lauderdale/fl-port-barge-listing-20130304,0,7294033.story Container vessel limps into Port Everglades A container vessel was brought into Port Everglades late Monday, escorted by at least three tug boats and two emergency craft, according to witnesses in the Sky Harbour high-rise overlooking the port. At least a dozen containers were at a 45-degree angle in the aft section of the vessel, witness Lou Gnandt estimated. "You can see all of the containers falling off and everything," he said. The vessel was reported to be docked near Berth 19 or 20. The Broward Sheriff's Office confirmed there were emergency response efforts around 10 p.m. dockside. Rare Vict0riann Posted March 5, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 5, 2013 I just went to check the webcam to see if anything was happening and couldn't figure it out if it was a dredger or what - I knew if I came to CC I'd find the answer! Way to go!
