Celebrity smoking policy "yeay"

It has been years since smoking was alowed in many areas of a cruise ship. On RCCL two weeks ago the only place we were bothered by smoking was in the casino and since we don't gamble ist happened only when we had to go through the casino to get to the dinning room. We could of avoiding it but held our breath instead. Years ago you could smoke anywhere including the dinning room.
We just returned from a 5 day cruise on RC Jewel and smoke was terrible. When you left the elevator on deck 4 it was everywhere from the casino and sports bar, heavy by the pool to get to the Solarium and around any bar.The final blow was balcony smokers with a seemingly open bar for friends on the balcony next to us. We couldn't get away from it.The problem is Celebrity deserts us from April to November.:(

Our cruisemates on Celebrity are smokers and we choose to sit with them in smoking areas, albeit they are either oudoors, or in very well ventilated indoor areas.

Having cruising withdrawal symtoms in late november, we booked a B2B on Carnival Conquest as it went to areas that Celebrity doesn't visit often on 7 or 14 day cruises, Bahamas, Key West and a couple of other specialy ports.

While the cruisports and other aspects of the cruises were quite enjoyable, we must emphatically state that we will never take another Carnival Cruise because of their smoking policies.

Having half of the tables and slots in the Casino with a small label that says "smoking is permitted at this table, or at this machine" is like saying that "peeing is permitted at this end of the pool". It doesn't work.

By 9:00 pm, the whole Casino has a smoke haze and reeks of smoke and its wide open to the shops and common areas. You can smell the smoke in all the elevators and hallways.

On top of that, children and non-smokers have to walk through the smoking areas to get to the Dining room, shops, lobby, and other public areas of the ship.

The only option is to go outside to go from one end to another.

Ou next two cruises are back on Celebrity and I hope Celebrity keeps its limited smoking areas.

Celebrity has eliminated all indoor smoking since your last cruise since you indicated there was an area indoor's where your friends were smoking. No indoor smoking on Celebrity fleetwide.

I was originally attracted to Celebrity because of all of the positive reviews about the ships, food and service. I found all of this to be true, and when I learned about their non smoking policy on board, I was thrilled! It's one more reason I will continue sailing with Celebrity.

My experience exactly and now add Captain's Club perks.

Allergic and very sensitive to smoke. Have had balcony neighbors smoke and called guest relations and it was promptly handled. Know one neighbor received a letter stating the policy and consequences. Know this because heard the neighbor telling her DH about the letter that was just delivered.

I'm a smoker and far prefer the Celebrity smoking policy---you can't even go thru the casinos on some other lines without a gas mask on----and smoking on a balcony as close as they are would just be rude

Thank you!:) It is so nice to know there are some considerate smokers out there! Every time we have cruised Carnival we have pretty much not been able to use our balcony because of chain smoking neighbors. They always scream it is their right on the Carnival board but they never stop to consider the way it impacts their neighbors rights to use their balcony.

I think until the other lines change their policies I am going to be sticking with Celebrity, although on European cruises we have had less problems with it (on RCCL and NCL.)

Sadly, in my experience, smoking policy was not enforced. We had a chain-cigar smoker on the balcony next to us who was never successfully snuffed. We reported him multiple times. I have read on other threads to report smoking policy violations to security instead of guest services, which is what I did. I was so bothered by the smoking fiasco on my Millie cruise, that you betcha I'm going to report every single smoking violation on Reflection in April. It infuriates me when this particular policy is not followed by cruisers or enforced by crew.

When we were on The Eclipse last there was smoking in an indoor area near the solarium, is this still the case?

No, actually that wasn't a smoking area, it was directly outside the door but the smoke came into the solarium. This has been changed from my understanding, they moved it because of so many complaints from those in Solarium.

Smoke free is important to my husband and I. We used to smoke 27 years ago. Living in Florida is nice because all restraunts are smoke free. We are sailing to Hawaii on March 19th. First with Celebrity. Have cruised with RCL . Anxious to meet people on this trip.

I was on Silhouette a couple of weeks ago and noticed that they moved the smoking area outside of the solarium to the opposite end of the pool area, near the doors that enter the pool area from the aft elevator area. There were a lot of cigar smokers there too. I thought they were supposed to go up to one side of the lawn club, but no one stopped them so maybe that changed. Then, I also noticed that smoking of cigarettes and cigars was all across the aft area of the lawn club, not just on one side.

Where we had the problem was deck 14 where you had to walk through the smoking section to get to the pool!

I believe if you enter from the starboard side, you can avoid the smoking area on the port side. :)

On reflection, is the smoking area on the odd or even number side of the ship?

We have cabins that are 03, and 05 on deck 6 and we all hate the smoke.

Thanks,

Howard

You're all the way back aft. The smoking area is on Deck 5, port side, the hump area. Shouldn't be a problem. Odd numbers = port side, even numbers = starboard side.

If you're really concerned, move to the even numbers (starboard).

We definitely select =X= because of the tight no smoking policy. We have pretty much stopped cruising on any other lines in favor of X. We will pay extra to get the cleaner air inside and out. Definitely report any violations directly to guest services and security the sooner the better. Rules are rules and NO SMOKING MEANS NO SMOKING!

My wife & I are both ex-smokers, having given away the habit many years ago, after watching my uncle die of lung cancer (heavy smoker). My wife is a retired nursing sister, and she nursed many dying patients who had smoked for many years.

I never thought I would become so much an "anti-smoker". I find I can't even stand near a person when they are smoking, I just walk away, telling them that the smoke effects me, and I want breath fresh air.

We don't book balcony cabins, in case, the persons in balcony cabins near us, are smoking. So we opt for "oceanview" cabins, a bit cheaper, but no smoke.

The last cruise we did was on the Sun Princess, around the Pacific Islands, and I noticed that smoking was allowed outside in certain areas, not close to public amentities, bars/food areas, etc.

I'm a smoker who is just fine with Celebrity's smoking policy. When I want a smoke, I just grab my Kindle and maybe a cup of coffee and head out to one of the few places on the ship where smoking is allowed. Sure there are times when I'd love a cigarette while in the casino or martini bar for example, but I know the rules and I follow them. It's not that big a deal. As an aside, the smoking areas become a sort of sub-culture where you see the same people over and over and can make new friends.

for their restricted smoking policies. It is one of the major, if not THE major reason we first sailed on the Connie, and have come back for more. Oceania is even a bit more restrictive.

Because we wanted to go to Glacier Bay, except for the Nat Geo ships, the only ones with a license to go there are the Carnival ships. We chose the HAL Amsterdam sailing because it fit around some family plans, was short and we were able to chose a good cabin & still have a balcony. Considered a suite on this older ship, it was the same size as we usually have, and was the first cabin forward, so the other cabins around us were limited - and there was no 2nd hand smoke :). It was a good cruise and we enjoyed it - but in answering the final question at the end of the journey: would we be back? We said only if they restricted smoking to one or two places.

Because we never knew when or where on an outside deck we might encounter smoke, there was frequently a 'smoking elephant' lurking in the background.

We also might try Azamara. And now look forward to investigating one of the steerage levels :D on an Atlantic crossing on Cunard next fall. Speaking of which, you'd think the world was coming to an end, to read their CC board.

More should have the attitude of MissMapp!

Smoking is allowed outside on Deck 5 port side. Is it the full length of this deck?

On Deck 5 - port side - "S" Class ships - it is outside the theater (forward stairs/elevators area) and then outside the mid-ship elevator/stairs area. The rest of the deck is all life boats, so not much to do/see there anyway. There are chairs in the smoking areas only. It is convenient for those who want to have a smoke before/after dinner in any of the venues that are on Deck 5 (many) and even the MDR which is on Deck 4 & 3.

The smoking rules are one of the great pleasures of sailing Celebrity.

Was on Carnival over 4th of July. It was a great cruise, except... folks smoked heavily in the casino (where one of the few live bands performed and where daily trivia contests took place) and on verandas. The smoke was so bad in the casino you could smell it two floors up, and my folks had to keep their veranda door closed due to folks smoking. (Would never book a veranda on Carnival with this policy as a non-smoker. However, it would be a selling point for a smoker).

Celebrity has told me that it identifies outdoor smoking areas in the daily newsletter but the locations vary from cruise to cruise. My question for people who have cruised Celebrity Millennium Class ships in 2013 is which outdoor areas have been designated for smoking on their cruises?

They are just leaving their options open with that answer. The only variation you re likely to find might be is the ship is bunkering on the port side and the smoking area is temporarily moved, or if a maintenance issue makes the usual smoking area unusable.

Are you trying to avoid a room near the smoking area? Book starboard side and you should have no trouble

Spot on and its amazing how many non smokers join in. However, we have sailed on a ship with a great outdoor bar smoking area that often had non smokers occupying many tables, who objected if a smoker was on the next table in the smoking area mmmmm.

Azamara smoking area is brill even though there is only one it really does not matter on a tiny ship.

It really can become the 'in' place with lots of laughter and chat;)

It was a big factor in our decision, too. I feel very bad for the person who had a non-repentant rule-breaker on the balcony next door - how incredibly rude and selfish. We didn't mind encountering or going through the small, designated outdoor smoking area - but the comedian onboard even made a joke about how unaccommodating those accommodations were for the smokers ("Geez! Who did you guys piss off?!").

No smoking anywhere inside the ship is THE reason we book Celebrity. Period. We used to buy a balcony, only to be chased inside due to wafting smoke. I remember a HAL cruise when smoke came into our cabin through the ventilation system. Woke me up each morning coughing, unable to breathe.

After Celebrity instituted its comprehensive non-smoking policy, I encounterd a smoker one deck up and to the right of us. I called guest services. They did take care of it.

Our next cruise is a 14 night Eclipse. I'm sure we would not be going if we had to worry about smoking.
