Making the Cruise Reservation

Can someone tell me what is the easiest way to make a reservation with Carnival? My last two cruises I used AAA in California to reserve our cruise. It looks easy enough to make reservations online, but how do I know if I am going to get the best rate, and any discounts (we were given a veterans/military discount before). I also want to be sure that I get a good room (would like a balcony), how do I know which deck is best for me and DH? Any ideas, suggestions, and/or tips are welcome.

In my opinion, I would contact a Vacation Planner through Carnival. They know all the details about each ship and best prices/cabins. If you have a problem after you are booked you can always call your Vacation Planner and they will help you. I have been using the same one for about 10 cruises now, if a cheaper price comes up, he calls me and lets me know. Everyone is different but I do recommend them. Hope this helps.

The poster seems very new so not to mislead them, your PVP is very good and not many will let you know that there are price drops.

Just wanted to know that price drops are not done automatically and most people have to contact their PVP's to let them know there is a price drop.:)

If you feel comfortable enough to do it yourself, just go to Carnival's home page and be your own cruise agent. Once you've explored around and know where to find everything, the process is fairly easy. As shof515 suggested, it would be a good idea to have a PVP at Carnival to work with. Someone that can answer your questions and help guide you through the process. When selecting a cabin, first take a look at the ship's deck plans. Pay close attention to what is on the deck directly above and directly below the cabin you're considering. If you're at all bothered by noise, avoid cabins that are directly above or below public gathering areas, such as lounges, the casino, and the Lido deck. Also, try to put a little distance between you and the elevators and stairways, to avoid some of the noise in the hallways. Good luck.

I just call and speak to who ever answers at Carnival. I used a TA for many years and had no problems. But a few years ago i decided to "book it" myself. Called Carnival and got a PVP. When i tried to get in contact with him..he could not be reached. Tried another PVP and had issues as well. So now i just call, and have had very good luck...

I open cruisedeckplans.com on the computer after picking a cruise and cabin then get on the phone and talk to Carnival to see if they have anything better. Carnival's deck plans don't show connecting rooms and other things but the other site does.

BTW, you can't mention travel agencies on CC.

Good point. I got lucky with my PVP, we have become friends and we cruised last year together.

Thanks Bernie - I've seen several posts about price drops, so I have to contact Carnival myself and request the new lower rate? I don't have a problem with that, I can always check for a lower rate each day! Thanks for that information.
