1st time cruiser questions about the Conquest

My Dh looked up our cabin on the Carnival web site & it looks like it is near the elevaters. How would we go about getting our cabin change? We do not want to be around any stair ways or the elevater or anyplace that may be noisey.

We were also wondering if there is a photo lab on the cruise to develope our cameria pictures? About what are the prices? We were also just talking about water proof camerias, wondering how much they are on the ship? We bought a couple but are thing that we might want to take them back since we have to fly in to NO & the Xray machines may mess them up.

Dh was also looking for a waterproof container for our money/credit cards while we are on the excursions but are having a hard time finding them here where we live. We are hoping that the cruise sells these on board.

Your cabin near the elevators will not be a problem! In fact, we ALWAYS request cabins close to the elevators due to the convenience of being right there after stepping off the elevators. You won't hear any noise from them, or from people going up and down the stairs. If you happen to be lugging bags of souveniers or several bags of luggage, you'll appreciate the closeness of your cabin.

As for the waterproof containers, check the sporting goods department at WalMart, near the swimming equipment. We found ours there.

call carnival first, and most likely they can switch your cabin for you. Unless the ship is already full of course. As far photos, I do not know the prices but they do develop photos onboard. As far as waterproof cameras, I would possibly look at buying them before getting on board. (IN New Orleans). Pretty much everything on board is marked up in price, but for some that makes no difference. Afterall it is vacation. I have stayed near the elevators before and found that it wasnt really that bad, but i guess it depends on how heavy you sleep. You will have a great time regardless. :D

I was by the elevator on Sensation & never heard it. You would be surprised how quite they are.

Yes, they do photo processing on the ship and sell water proof cameras but all are higher priced. Good idea to purchase at home. You should have no problem with xrays & film. I just flew to NO last weekend, signs stating xrays only harmful to 800 or over speed film. There is also a thread discussing the film - xray subjuct for more info.

Gift shop usually sells waterproof cases or you might try Walmart or online.

Hope this answered all your questions. Happy sailing! :D

Hi Tymaboy! Based on what I've seen for 7/3, changing cabins looks like a longshot. When I go into "Upgrade stateroom" from the Carnival website, they show inside cabins available - no balconies or outside cabins. Having said that, we were near the elevators last year on Victory, and they really weren't bad as far as noise goes. We'd hear an occasional "Bing-bong- Deck 10 - Panorama" and that was it. No noisy pax. We're on Lido deck this time around, and the cabin is fairly close to the main doors out to the pool. I think it's a great location, since you can go anywhere fairly quickly.

We have bought the waterproof cases onboard and like them because they have carnival on them.. and they werent very high in price at all.. I may be wrong but Im thinking the water cameras are around $15--- that may be higher than what I recall but I remember seeing them and thinking they must think Im crazy to pay that much..

Thanks everyone. You have helped us out, but now I have another question. I read on some of the other posts about coupons that included a free picture among other things. How do we get one of those coupon books? Will they hand them out on the ship? We already have our sailing papers so I am awsuming that they will not be mailed to us.

Not really sure what you are talking about. By "free picture" do you mean one of the 8 x 10s that you get from when the ship photographers take your photo? I think these coupon books are for people who either previously purchased them, or for those who are past guests and wrote a letter after their last cruise and got some kind of gift for their current cruise. The don't simply just hand them out.

If you sit through the Carnival Vacation Club presentation, you will get a sheet of coupons, none of which are all that great. The best one was a $5 free play chip in the casino.

Yes that is what I meant. I had heard that most of the coupons are not the greatest but thought the picture coupon we would use.

Tymaboy,

I got a coupon for a free 8 x 10 after I bought a video of talent night, $30 for VHS. I think there were other discount coupons on a page. I got it the last night, so I didn't use it, checked out the next morning.

If you have a boating store nearby, check with them for waterproof containers, especially if they sell ski's and the like. Online would work too.

I live here in New Orleans, many of the drug stores and grocery stores do 1 hr photo processing. Kenner, where the airport is located, would be a better choice vs New Orleans to do that. Just a thought.

We were on the Conquest in February and just loved it (all 38 of us)!! We purchased underwater cameras at home and I purchased them on eBay for $4 each...they were Kodak cameras and at the local drugstore they were $8-$15 each. I ordered extras for some cruisemates and had them developed on board before coming home. As a previous poster stated..it is $6.95 for developing...which is not too bad considering the risk of bringing the cameras home thru the airport security etc and losing the film:( that would have killed me as we had such great pics of the stingrays and snorkeling and our days with Captain Bryans and Nachi Cocum.....mmmmm wish we were there.....

We bought an underwater camera from the Conquest photo department for under $20. It is a cheap 35mm camera in a waterproof case (and took good photos) that you can re-load with film and use over & over. We also used shipboard photo processing as we want to see how the pictures turned out, and thought it was reasonable in price. What ever you decide, be sure to write your name, ship, cabin, etc on your camera. And take more photos than you think you need!
