How safe is it to rent a scooter and explore on your own?

Is crime any more of an issue on Antigua than other ports?

Antigua is safe and you can explore anywhere on your own. Do not rent a scooter. If you wish to drive and explore - and there is every good reason why you should - be surrounded by a steel box and four wheels.

We did it a couple of years ago and had a blast. If you've ridden a motorcycle before and aren't afraid to drive on the left then go for it....although I'm sure my opinion will be in the minority on here. We used Checke's scooters and they delivered it to the port area for us. Plan on doing it again next January.

2007 on the Emerald Princess I rented a scooter from Cheke and drove the island no crime great scenery MAJOR potholes and tons of goats but I would do it again lots of fun and a great way to see the island. Hope that helps Todd .......that was the day of the earthquake in Nov. of 2007 Cheke was freaked out really funny great guy.
