Cabin on deck 2 drawbacks?

Recommended Posts

Right now we are in a Promenade on deck 7. Can get a outside cabin for $75 cheaper. The drawback is that it is on deck 2. We do gain one whole square foot. Woot! Woot! lol

Just was wondering on others opinions based on being on deck 2 before if we should stick with the Promenade.

I am a walker, so would do the stairs. My husband has a bum knee and takes the elevator for more than 2 floors.

This is on the Indy.

The lower mid-ship cabins are the most stable. You'll feel less motion on deck 2. It will be quieter and instead of a view of the promenade you will have a view of the ocean. Go for it.

Two more advantages: You can walk to your cabin when coming in from port.

The elevator will be empty when it gets to your deck so there will be room. That is unless you have people that have gotten on it to go down and back up because all the elevators going up have been full. (lol). Usually only happens after the shows let out or supper time.

I'm probably in the minority. I dislike being low on the ship. I feel like it's away from everything. I would rather take an interior up higher over one with a port hole. I'd stick to the Promenade cabin.

I only purchase interior or balcony and above cabins. The OV's in the upper decks seem to always be booked.

I was on deck 2 on Indy in January and didn't mind it. The only issue I had was that my room was only accessible via the centrum elevators and not the forward ones. Once I figured that out and planned accordingly, it was fine. I've attached a picture I took to show where my room was in relation to the elevator access. I was 2405.

Agree with Tucker that it is a benefit to be close to the gangway deck so you can walk.

I always book on the lower decks for the cost saving. I've occasionally had cabins on upper decks when booking a guarantee room and I have to say, I tend to prefer the lower decks as well.

Yes, you will need to take the elevator to the pool and Windjammer, and you visit those daily.

However, you're only ONE flight up when you return from ports of call. You're one flight below the deck which houses the ice rink and the lower level of the theater. You're only two flights down from the main dining room (you'll be there daily too), the casino and the Schooner Bar. There are TONS of things on the Promendade Deck, just three flights up from your cabin.

In my opinion, wherever my cabin, there will be decks I need to get to by elevator. Why pay more just to be close to the POOL deck?? It's not the only deck we will visit on a regular basis.

I would take a view of the ocean over a view of the inside of the ship for $75 MORE!!! I'm with maddycat - GO FOR IT!!
