The Lofoten Islands

We are doing the Classic Winter North trip in late Jan next year and one of the stops looks like it is at the Lofoten Islands. The only trip they offer is the Viking Feast.

 

Has anyone done it as was it worth it? Trying to work out where it docks, it looks like it stops in one island continues and you get picked up for another... Is that right?

 

In late Jan would the nature safaris still be running and would we be able to join one?

We did the round trip in early January 2013 and went on the Viking Feast. It was fun, the program enjoyable, and the food good. You are greeted by a "Viking King, Queen, and serveral slave girls". They explain what life was like during Viking times, and then you have a traditional Viking feast. We went primarily because one of the people in our group was really interested in it. Had he not wanted to go, I would not have signed up for it. Yes, you get off the boat in Stamsund, travel by bus to the Viking Feast, and then meet up with the boat in Svolvaer.

 

It's hard to answer "was it worth it". Depends if you enjoy reinanactments of previous times in history.

 

The Hurtigruten tour brochure lists when the various tours are available.

Thanks, it sounds a bit more interesting than I thought and it would be nice to see something different. :)
