Help with San Juan hotel

Hi everyone,

I tried looking on the SJ boards but my browser is not cooperating and I am getting tossed out. I apologize for posting this question here.

Can anyone recomment a CHEAP but NICE hotel in SJ? We are thinking of taking the Carnival Destiny to the So Carib and would be flying in a day early and staying in SJ overnight.

Also, anyone have any thoughts on the Destiny?

Thanks SO much!

You won't find anything "cheap" in San Juan. I have heard that El Convento is a very nice hotel in Old San Juan. Some like to stay by the ocean and say the Caribe Hilton is nice. I stayed at the San Juan Grande, but I think they turned it into condos. That was in 1997 and we paid $320/night.

People have been getting Sheraton Old San Juan, which is in walking distance to the pier, on hotwire for under $100. Other have gotten the Comfort Inn for around $80-90. Priceline is also an option if you want a room for under $100.

We did that trip in 2003, stayed at The Regency Hotel in Old San Juan, (not the Hyatt Regency), right next door to the Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino, but about half the price. They even have a walkway that connects the two hotels, and Regency guests can use many of the Wyndham's facilities. It's right on the ocean, although no beach. Beautiful view, nice pool, continental breakfast. A Google search for Regency San Juan will bring up the phone number.

We used Priceline and got the Caribe Hilton for $85/night. Of course you add on taxes and it probably came to about $100. It was lovely, right on the ocean. We have some beautiful pictures from our balcony. Unfortunately our flight arrived very late (10:30 pm) so we didn't get to enjoy the hotel very much, just one night.

We've used Priceline in Ft. Lauderdale and was also pleased. You can go to Biddingfortravel and get some tips on your bid.

Good Luck!!!

Cindy

We will be in San Jaun in December and we are going to start bidding on price line today. Our other choice will be the Coral Princess in San Juan. I have only heard good things about it and it looks like it is around $100.00 a night.

If your looking for clean and neat place with a muffin and juice breakfast then go online to El Canario by the Sea We went in May stayed one night it was 91 bucks for a night with tax and I saved 5 bucks for booking online. It is right on the beach the staff is friendly and it was a place we WILL go to again. It isn't fancy no restaurnat (but many around to walk to) and the beach was gerat.

About the Destiny...we have sailded her twice 4 times with Carnival and we like it alot. We have never had a bad cruise. We love the staff and the ports are some of the best. Remember a vacation is what YOU make of it

The ship is big and you have to spend time just getting used to the girl but otherwise your picking a great ship

Just recently we stayed at the Intercontinental in San Juan. Beautiful hotel and right next door to the Wyndham El San Juan which is truly swanky. I registered as a member on Intercontinental's web site and got a very nice room with sitting area for $117 per night. Seven restaurants there plus seven or so more next door at the Wyndham.

Just stay away from the restaurants unless you want to lose money! There are some fast food restaurants within walking distance.

I am sailing the Destiny in December and got my pre-cruise hotel on Hotwire for $84 at the Sheraton Old San Juan - right across the street from the dock where we board the ship. Our post-cruise hotel I got for $85 at the Radisson Ambassador. I would say to check out Hotwire first and see what they are coming up with.
