Ok I don't want any flack for this. Just a question for some of you "pros"

I am already booked and paid in full and I did not get "early saver" but with all these deals right now I wanted to upgrade my cabin from the Main deck (inside) to the Lido deck (inside). I called carnival and the rep Told me that I had to pay $100 more. The sailing is $100 less now then it was when I booked it. I don't want to pay extra just thought maybe for a little upgrade :). I am happy that I am at least on vacation and I really don't mind the cabin I am in. Just wanted to maybe get something closer to the action.

Is this something that Carnival would do if I called back and spoke to someone else?

They used to always do this, but I read now that they decided to quit doing it.. then last week they sent a letter to the TAs that they were upgrading for free .. but since the sale ended I dont know if their gesture of goodwill is over or not.

I probably would call back myself .. or push my PVP to get me the upgrade. But then I am not one to take no for a answer when I know a lot of others got it last week. Ask for a supervisor, push a little. Tell them you arent happy about the price drop and getting nothing for it (even if as you say you can live with it).. you got nothing to lose right by pushing the issue a little? and talking to someone else.

Not me.. not if prices had dropped $100 as she said so the cabin is the same price as what she paid.

I must not be as free of a spender.

Im really bad at the whole price drop upgrade thing because we always book the location we want to be (lido) but if the Op did not book early saver why would they be able to upgrade for free regardless of the price difference between what they originally booked and the price today. So if I book a cruise today for late 2013 for $1800 and a few weeks or a month before its $1300 I should call and get upgraded a few categories for free ? Why wouldnt everyone do this

I read on CC about TAs receiving the letter about free upgrades for past guests. Since I had several concerns about the cabin we booked due to reviews I read, I wrote a very nice email to my PVP (who, by-the-way is wonderful) and received a call within a few hours. We were upgraded from Empress to Lido with no charge within minutes. He said Carnival was doing extras for past guests in light of recent events.

Since we didn't book in time for Early Saver and booked under the Casino Rate, I understood that I wasn't "due" anything. I am pleased with the accommodation I received. It really pays to have a good PVP. Looking forward to cruising again.

Because most people want to get OBC if there is a price drop. The upgrading in the past was the only option for those whose price dropped who could not get the price drop.

People book ES to get the price drops. .. I never hear anyone who says I book ES because if the price drops I can get upgraded, no they book it to get OBC after final payment .. to obtain those price drops.

OP knows they cant get a price drop, so this is the only option open to her.

I would not pay $100 on principle .. if my price had dropped that much, I sure would feel like I was paying twice.

We were just upgraded today on the Dream from the Upper deck (balcony in a not too great location, but still better than being at home) to the Vista deck. Our PVP made the move without any issues. Good luck.

I called 3x last week with long wait times to see if I could get OBC b/c I booked casino rate instead of my usual ES rate for upcoming Carib cruise on Breeze. The 3rd time I got smart and asked for a supervisor, very politely. The pvp was very gracious and obtained a supervisor ASAP, I couldn't get OBC but she was willing to up grade me from ext aft to spa balcony, worth about $600. I love thhe aft balcony so I declined, but it was worth a shot. I was past final payment so you should ask for a supervisor and be polite. If the phone wait times are long, try pushing #2 to book a new cruise. All they can do is bump you off and you just call back. Good luck.

It worked! Thanks for your help guys! I called and got someone who was actually super nice. I basically told her that I had some friends who are booked and past guest paid in full, and they were able to get room upgrades without charge and I wondered what I could do to have that? She took a look and it was no problem for her to move me up to the lido! WOO HOO!! It's the simple things for this girl.

Great!! I was just getting ready to reply and tell you to call again, when I saw this post. My grandma always said "Know how to ask for things in such a way that people will want to give them to you". It most often works. ;)
