Hi,

Is it safe and fast/convenient to take bus from VCE (Venice) airport to the hotel/B&B that's about 5 miles from the airport during late night, around 11PM?

For taxi, roughly how much does it cost? 15 euro?

Thanks,

April

Safe? Yes. But at the late hour you would need to find out if there is even a bus that can get you to your hotel. If not....and if your hotel does not have a hotel shuttle service (e-mail your hotel and ask) then you would need a land taxi. Not sure of the taxi cost but it should not be any more then 20 Euros (just have some extra Euros just in case). You can ask the driver the taxi fare before you get in the taxi.

We travelled Italy summer2011 mom and teen daughter. Venice feels super safe and the bus was awesome. The only thing would be finding out the time table as mentioned. I felt very safe on the bus system (sometimes a bit cramped) but if it is running at that time I would definitely use transportation to and from airport via bus!

Maybe I am missing something. You are arriving late at night after a long day. The hotel is not very far away. The taxi ride is relatively inexpensive. You are spending thousands on a cruise and airfare. Just take a taxi and spend a few more Euros. It will save you any worries about schedules and safety. And remember, if your flight arrives at 11:00PM, plan on at least an hour to get off the plane, get your luggage and leave the terminal.

Again, as per previous responses,

email your hotel and ask THEM! They will know better than anyody here how much the fare should be!

take into cosideration that taxis in Europe are often small and not comparable with the big cars in the US that can easily fit 3-4 suitcases.

Many taxis in Europe run on gas (not petrol) and that tank takes up half the trunk/boot. Usually taxis will take 4 pax maximum.

There may be surcharges for trips from the airport, night-time fares, extra for each piece of luggage in the trunk..

Still, it beats the bus, which is unlikely to stop right near your hotel.

Hank answered your question about the cost estimate ... 20E max.

The Marriott and Titian Inn are both close enough to the airport that they have their own shuttle ... not sure of the shuttle hours or room rates, but worth looking into. A caution about some hotels and B&B's that advertise themselves as close to the airport and Venice .... some don't have easy access to trains or buses so you might have to pay another 15-20E to get back to the airport for a cheap ride into Venice. So be sure to consider easy access FROM the airport and TO Venice.

Also, the ATVO airport express bus runs until 12:20am; 6E for the 20 minute ride. http://www.atvo.it/index.php?lang=en&area=23&menuid=35

Perhaps consider going to directly to Venice upon arrival. Or to Mestre which is a budget friendly option and just across the bridge from Venice so a cheap, quick commute.) That would save having to change hotels since you added an extra night.

Fblack,

I asked in another post for taxi fare but got no reply. Do you know roughly how much does it cost, assuming we book a hotel within 10 miles radius?

All,

Thanks for the reply!

April

A 10 mile radius is a big area with many different taxi fares. So I guess the answer would be your taxi fare will vary from 7 Euros (for very close) to around 35 Euros (for the outer part of your radius ring.

Buses will be limited at that time. Each taxi fare will vary. You can ask two taxi's and they'll give you different prices. We've lived here in vicenza/venice for 2 years. Make sure if you take a taxi they have a meter in the car and they restart it. There are lots of shady people here. Your best bet is to get in touch with your hotel. Many offers shuttles. OR even do a car hire via your hotel.
