We doing a family cruise in August on the Freedom. Our Granddchildren ages DGD 10

DGS -13 DGS- 14 DGD - 15 DGD- 17 and DGD-18 along with their parents.

The under 18 all have clubs on Carnival to particpate in but what does the 18 year old.

She and her 17 year old cousin are close but not sure if they both can do the same thing

Thanks for you opinions.

They seem to find people ther own age girlfriends and yes the boys will be there too and in most cases they hang out together for the entire cruise and hopefully make some long lasting freindships ...your job is to chill and let it happen ...have a great family cruise

If she is still in high school, she can show her school I'd and they will let her participate in the 15-17 club.

Never mind - just saw that the cruise is in August, so I'm assuming she will have just graduated.

Thanks , Yes she will have graduated by the time we cruise. I'm sure that she and her cousin will find something to do, but I just asked the question to see it Carnival has something for this in between age.

Have the 18yo bring the HS ID. It is possible that s/he will be allowed in. Depends on how many kids and the counselor onboard.

The 18yo can do everything except drink alcohol and go to the Serenity deck.

Play blackjack and drink under the table, if that's what they do. It's sort of a rough age to be on the ship, you either do adult activities or you don't do much of anything.

I would not put an 18 year old in the kids camp unless they absolutely wanted to do it.

It's a tough age. The 2 older girls will be able to do different things. The 18 year old can get into the dance club, but not the 17 year old. Neither for Serenity deck. Only younger girl for Teen club. Older girl for adult comedy, but the younger can probably sneak in if she wants.

the 18 year old will be the "wingman/girl" for the 17 yr. old. the 18 yr old is out of luck. Hopefully the 17 yr. old will go make friends, and bring them to the 18 yr old. lol

just took a cruise with our ds-18, a Sr. in high school over spring break. there wasn't really anything for him to do. he hung with us, slept, went to ports and excursions, played in the casino, went to the shows, enjoyed the comedy shows, went and talked with the Vets at "Veterans Meet", participated in a few trivia games with us, hung out in the hot tub, slept some more. Come to think of it, I guess he did find something to do.

I'm having this issue with my cruise for January 2014. My daughter doesn't want to go because she will be 19 and they don't have any clubs for her and she's not sure about meeting new friends. For our Thanksgiving 2012 cruise, even though she was 18, they let her in Club 02 because she was 17 when we boarded so she made some friends but by the end of the cruise, she was bored of the Casino and sitting around the club.

I know she'll be 19 but I don't like the idea of leaving her home "alone" for 9 days while I'm cruising. I wish Carnival would have something for this age group.

DS was 17 on our cruise in January. He did meet a group at the kid's club but they didn't spend too much time there. Somewhere in their travels they found an 18 year old guy that stayed with the group the rest of the time. If they aren't shy, they should be able to make friends.

They liked the pools, hot tubs, mini golf, girl watching, family comedy shows and pizza. So, even without the kids club there's plenty to do and friends to make.

I asked this question to see if there were planned activities on Carnival for this age group!

You asked what do 18 year olds do and I answered ...I was only going on my past experience when our girls were that age. They were quite capable of entertaining themselves and good at meeting new people. They did not need Mommy planning there day for them!

From the other post regarding the serenity area - majority seems to have no problem with a 19 year old being there - so why couldn't this 18yr old enjoy it too?

They have planned meetings for 18-20 year olds... no one goes and they don't really have any activities.

Is that listed in the fun times? I'm assuming you went, and there was no one there. Were the activities possibly cancelled because no one showed up?

They used to have it listed as something like (18-20 meet and greet). And it would be 2 or 3 nights in one of the lounges... There wouldn't be activities and no one would attend. They may have canceled it by now because it was never attended... When I was in that group (18-20), I enjoyed gambling some but it wouldn't last long as I didn't have a lot of money... Other than that, I met people at:

Dinner (often had tables with other families with kids my age)

Hot tubs

Pool

Other activities (like ping pong tournaments, basketball, etc.)

Karaoke

Dance Club

Casino

I know u are on our cruise momma mojito, my son is 21, in college, and lives at home. He just turned 21 in January. Last cruise was the first out of 3 he didn't find someone to hang out with the whole cruise and it was a 7 night. He went to tea with us, all the comedy shows regular and adult, gambled my money a little, none of his! And he went to lunch with me once when my hubby had practice for the Legends show. Hopefully this cruise he finds some friend, if not he relaxes.

The Serenity Deck rules are 21 and older.

Whether one wishes to follow the rules is up to the individual.

The question on the is thread is what can an 18yo do. According to Carnival's rules it's as I stated- everything but drink alcohol and go to the Serenity Deck.

The feeling on the mentioned thread was rather have a serene 18yo than a loud, obnoxious over21 on the Serenity deck. But be prepared for the under21 to be asked to leave. I agree with the sentiment.

(I'm a bit of a rebel but I won't tell you which rules I break.:D;))

Our DD's have both aged out of the camps. One DD won't go on another cruise without a bunch of friends and the other is perfectly content to hang with us.

I am not trying to plan activities for my teenage grandchildren. I only thought some of you would give some suggestions and yes I know they are more that capable of entertaining themselves

One more thing no ome has to tell me to chill out!!!
