"Treacherous and wrong" ? (a quote from the program) The very definition of Congress and especially Rockefeller. They will do anything to draw attention away from themselves.

Many politicians are wealthy (as in beyond rich), especially at the national level, and most (all?) have exploited all of the loopholes, including offshore banking.

To close the loopholes would be taking money out of their (Congress and their supporters) pockets.

USCG had nothing to do with Costa Concordia - why was that even mentioned other than to sensationalize the story and/or generate revenue for the ambulance chaser?

I think Carnival is doing the right thing - there will always be haters, smoke blowers, and profiteers trying to go after the deep pockets. Don't be sidetracked and keep doing what you are doing - provide the best cruise value there is.

Carnival is definitively taking the high road.

I always thought Brian Willams was an honest, fair, impartial reporter. Not anymore. What a one sided report.

Rockefeller forgot to mention how many US corporations pay no taxes at all. Wonder if he'll go after the oil companies, or GE?

I would have no problem with the Coast Guard charging Carnival, or any other cruise line for some things. A situation like the Triumph or the Splendor. When they are rescuing a US citizen, well isn't that what our taxes pay for?

Sad thing is they could have done a good story just being fair, including other cruise lines and mentioning how many other corporations pay no taxes.

The only thing I learned was that Arrison owns the Miami Heat. If he can afford a basketball team maybe he could stop doing all the cut backs on Carnival?

CCL was dumped in his lap when his father walked away.

I agree with most of the rest, but the USCG doesn't exist just for US citizens. There were US citizens who survived (most passengers did) the Concordia disaster (a true disaster), but I haven't heard of the Italian Coast Guard charging either the the passengers or the cruise line. I think rescue is one of the reason they exist. They don't discriminate.

I don't think passengers should be charged if there's a disaster like Concordia. I'm not sure but it looked as if the Coast Guard was escorting the Triumph back to Mobile. In a situation like that I see no problem with the cruise line being charged.

Guess rather or not a passenger is charged would depend on why they had to rescue them. I'm not talking the total cost either but maybe a percentage.

I don't have any problem with the USCG, including sending Carnival a bill. In the case of Triumph, didn't the show say it was something less than $800,000? That is probably less than the advertisers on the NBC show paid.

or making BP pay every dime for their disaster.

The passenger should not have to pay, but it also should have nothing to do with whether or not they are US citizens. It also should have nothing to do with whether or not they can pay.

Why does everyone always bring this up in relation to cutbacks?

He did not buy the Heat with Carnival Corp. money...

Like any other billionaire, he bought a sports team to live out a childhood fantasy....

If he chooses to piss away his personal fortune by paying LeBron, Wade, etc... millions, that is his business.

Same as you and I blowing our discretionary income on our hobbies.

taking cruises, fixing muscle cars, collecting coins, building ham radio equipment, building computers, Comic collecting, home brewing, art collecting, etc. etc...

All hobbies require money to do.

Should someone bitch about a person if they decide to "cutback" on eating out weekly, keeping their perfectly functioning car for a decade, having a staycation, to save money to put towards their hobby of choice?
