cruisinmeme Posted March 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 29, 2013 looking at the jewel on deck 8 at the ocean view that has the lifeboats outside. We have only had balcony and suites cabins. Want to squeeze in another cruise and save a little bit. I like the way the midship cabins are very close to blue lagoon. Was thinking of one of those side ways cabins. Any input here? OceanDreaming2 Posted March 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 29, 2013 We had a sideways layout obstructed OV on the Jewel last summer. The cabin seemed larger than a "normal" OV. The bed is not under the window, it's at right angles to it so you can actually get close to it to enjoy the view. Yes, our view was obstructed but it wasn't that bad. And we used the window ledge for extra storage. Two things to consider. We had a crew stairway right across from us and it was VERY noisy the last night with all the luggage being moved to a lower deck. Only one electrical outlet in the cabin and we had to run a long extension cord so DH could use his CPAP. Didn't stop us from booking another obstructed OV on the Jewel again, though. Good news so far. Do you remember the cabin number or location. Maybe I best not get the one on the end. We have booked those side way cabins on the smaller carnival ships and really like them. Many people dont but we do.
Love my butler Posted March 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 29, 2013 The sideway cabin is awesome. The view not so much. Another issue we have had is there is a walkway just outside the window, and quite often crew were standing right outside our window.

Same cabin this January. Slept through the entire luggage moving operation:) so didn't hear anything. I'd say go for it!
Barb Nahoumi Posted March 30, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 30, 2013 This is what we booked for our up and coming repositioning cruise on the Dawn----Obstructed OV guarantee. The cruise is April 21, and we still don't have a room assignment yet. I was informed that we could possible find out at the pier.
