floatplan Posted April 4, 2013 #176 Share Posted April 4, 2013
Threads about smoking always make me smile a little. Googled things about Americains; 6% are alcoholic, 19% are smokers and over 33% has obesity. Yet threads about alcohol or ordering multiple appetizers or entree's never seem to border as much as the smoking questions. Why ?? And don't say apples and oranges; it's all bad for you and the people in your environment. I always have the feeling that non smokers never stop untill the last smoker on earth stop smoking. To make a long story short; bad luck if you have a neighbour that smokes or whatever bad habit he has.
Smoking is different, it really spreads. Noise could be an issue, but has not been a problem. Someone ordering extra food...never seen or heard that on my balcony. I really really enjoy breathing the sea air and being on my balcony. I like to open my balcony doors to let the sea air into the room and look out at the blue ocean. If there's a smoker in the nearby dozen rooms that smoke will get sucked into my room, and that's not what I want to smell. I have to close the doors. I don't care about stoping all smoking on earth. We need smoking to pay for our schools, and it saves social security more then it costs in medicare. I don't want to smell smoke in my space. And neither do a lot of smokers that will not smoke in their house or car. The writing is on the wall, smoking is banned by law in most public places. Its banned in most places in cruise ships. The major sore point is balcony smoking. NCL should ban balcony smoking. Its like having a smoking section airplanes, remember that? Planning on trying Celebrity Cruises because they prohibit balcony smoking. Sure they cost more, but it sounds worth it. The food is supposed to be much better, MDR food on NCL has been disappointing.

However, I bought my most recent cruise using their 1-2-3 promotion, which gave me free, unlimited booze. It worked out cheaper for me in the end -- no $600+ bar tabs at the end of the cruise. Another added bonus -- no smoking in the casino. There were only three places on the entire ship (all outdoors) where people could smoke. FWIW, I thought the MDR food was just okay. Choose Celebrity for the free booze and its smoking policy, not for its MDR food.
