Nghthawke Posted April 1, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2013 We were thinking of doing Oslo on our own. Would like to visit Bygdoy Peninsula's Viking Ship Museum and Norwegian Folk Museum and then over to either the National Gallery or Munch Museum. Can anyone tell me if any of these will be closed or on a holiday schedule on May 20th? What about transportation; will that be on some sort of holiday schedule? Thank you kindly. kaisatsu Posted April 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Yes, it's a public holiday. The major tourist attractions will likely be open their normal hours, but transit will probably be following the reduced Sunday schedule.

It looks like both the National Gallery and the Munch Museum will be closed on that day. The information on the Munch Museum website is confusing however: It says: There are no exhibition at the Munch Museum during the following periodes due to change of exhibitions: 13. May - 1. June But then further down it says: Pentecost Monday, 20. May 12am-4pm So which is it? Open or closed?

From the visitoslo.com tourism info: Open all days during Easter and Whitsun, unless these days on a period where there is a change of exhibition (see below). Note: The museum closes for exhibition changes a few times every year. In 2013, the museum is closed for exhibition changes during the following periods: 18 February - 1 March 13 May - 1 June 14 October -1 November The shop and café are open during this time, except on Tusdays. (The National Gallery is simply closed because it's a Monday, rather than because it's Pentecost.)

Nghthawke Posted April 2, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted April 2, 2013 Wow talk about bad timing: Two copies of The Scream and both not accessible. I guess I will make do with a fridge magnet from the gift shop. LOL
