Six-Flags of the Seas.No thanks, I'll keep cruising for the love of the sea and ports
I agree, no thanks!! I'll be on the smaller ships with ya ;)

I will remain baffled as to why people want these things on cruise ships. I get the families thing, but cruising is being made into something it's not supposed to be...an amusement park.
Who says? Where is the law book on what cruising is supposed to be? I'm sure that with so many cruise lines and different offerings there is a ship out there for whatever YOU believe cruising to be.

Royal Caribbean is a business, a very successful one at that! I think they know what they are doing. If their ships constantly sailed half full, then yes, they are missing the mark...but we all know that is not the case.

Choose the line, or ship that gives you want you want.

I just want to sail. I know a lot of people will like the new features but come on, bumper cars, sky pods, roller skating, trapeze. If I want a carnival at sea... I'll sail well, Carnival.

We have a young family (teens) and alternate Disney trips and summer cruises for a reason. Even our kids enjoy the peaceful cruising - so much so that the cruises are their favorite. A little fun is great but we all love the "sailing" part. I hope some ships like RCL's Grandeur and NCL's Sun stick around for those who love traditional cruising.
Really? Not hard to understand where the amusement park comparison comes from.

People are just stating their opinions...relax!!
Oh, I understand where the comparison comes from, but I think it is a pale comparison. It's like calling a ship a "Floating Las Vegas" because it has a casino. And what makes you think I am not relaxed? Like you said.....I was stating MY opinion. That is ok.....right?!?!?
RCCL is trying to make the ship the destination with this new design. They do not want you to get off the ship, and to happily spend your money on these new add-on activities. New York to Bahamas? There is literally going to be no place to stop on that itinerary. The ship is going to sail down to their private island Coco Cay and then head back up again. For families that love being on a cruise ship, this is your dream come true. For those that love to explore the ports, today was a very big disappointment.
That is why for me, a Florida Resident, will probably not make book this ship unless I am going to see Family that lives' in NJ. Not worth it to spend the money to fly to NJ,cruise down to Coco cay or Haiti when I can do it anytime with a short 3 hour drive to the port. Now if the wife says we are going.......

I am glad the Northeast got a new ship. I am sure she will provide lots of people a great vacation option.
Maybe people should use the word carnival instead of amusement park. :)
Yeah, that's closer! lol!
Too bad the amusement park ships do not go to sea or ports.
IKR?!? Personally, I don't see how any the extras takes away from a cruise.

Of course it's okay, but I felt you were kind of disrespectful to my comments, so I was responding, that's all.

Let's not fight, this is about cruising, not that serious in the scheme of things.

BTW, your eye is kind of creeping me out--haha! :)

I guess some people would have a hard time relaxing on a ship knowing that someone, somewhere on that same ship, was doing a simulated sky dive.

Since there are two types of cruisers- those who like the peace, quiet, relaxation and the sea experience and those who like the activities and bells and whistles and newness of it all- RCI has plenty of ships to cater to both types. Why would they build another big "quiet" ship when the NY/NJ area is a huge family oriented departure port and people are willing to spend the extra money not to fly from there.

There are plenty of beautiful and peaceful ships without all the bells and whistles so go ahead and enjoy those if the larger class ships aren't your thing.

Why do posters get so defensive and angry when somebody expresses disagreement or doesn't share the same excitement about some of the features ?

I think the ship is beautiful and there are some great ideas that I am excited about. At the same time, I just have to roll my eyes at bumper cars, circus classes, and the north star (which I think we can all see being out of service a fair amount!) I'm also absolutely not going to go to New Jersey to go on a cruise .

I'm intrigued but not as thrilled about Quantum as I was Oasis and Freedom. I may be more interested if Anthem has a better homeport, but otherwise, ehhh. The ship isn't worth the hassle of NJ for me.

I am not impressed with bumper cars, London Eye, or virtual skydiving. Actually, I'm more interested in the family connected rooms and the innovative technology being brought forth with Quantum.

Face it, you just don't want to sail her from New York Harbor - just say it, don't poo-poo new ship design and technology!

I did say I don't want to sail from that area. I also would feel the same way about my statement regardless of where she sailed.

Well when you get right down to it, Royal does not advertise itself as "Ocean Liners" like Cunard ships where you don't have all the amusement type of activities but they are a "Cruise Line" that is trying to woo people away from land based vacations by saying ...."Look bring the family... we have some of everything for everybody of all ages" and to me that is smart marketing!

Sorry, I don't think you will find those things on Carnival Cruise line...at least not on the Pride!:)
How carnival-esque will cruising continue to get? What are these focus groups that RCI is listening to? I thought the Oasis class was over the top in the amusement-park-ification of cruising, but bumper cars? Observation cranes? What the....

I'll stick to the Radiance, Voyager and Freedom classes. Sheesh.
Gotta admit, not much of what I saw turns me on. Bumper cars, roller skating, observation towers, simulated sky diving. I'll stick to the Freedom classes and below thanks.

Since you mention it, I will probably avoid Quantum for a while because of just that reason. There are many reasons I do not want to sail out of that area, of which I will not get in to. I would love to sail this ship, but I can see myself waiting for Anthem.

Thank you. Anthem will also give some time for reviews of Quantum to come out :). I wonder when Anthem's itineraries will be announced. Probably next April?

Oh no, I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, sorry if I came across that way! There were a few others that used the "Amusement Park" analogy. I was just talking about that, not to one person in general.

I can see that the amusement park type activities and attractions will be popular with many and long may they enjoy their cruises on Quantum.

Like others who have posted already I am one of those cruisers who like to know I am at sea, watch the waves and feel the breeze. It seems a pity that RCI could not keep both types of cruisers happy. Can they not install the amusements but still keep the open deck space? Clever engineers can surely achieve this if they put their minds to it.

If not it would be a shame for all the "open air" cruisers if the Radiance and other ships they like are allowed to age and be retired without something similar being added to the fleet.

It does not have to be one or the other, amusement park or classic cruising why not both?

Some of the new venues do sound interesting. However, I too am concerned that at some point they will have replaced all of the Radiance and Voyager class ships and we will have just the bigger ships.
We like the longer cruises, at least 9 nights and prefer 11 or 12. When they move the smaller ships to Florida, they seem to do short cruises.
I will save judgment until we have more info about the dining and shows.
Also, I didn't notice whether there was a mini golf course. We always play several times during the cruise. Bumper cars would not be a suitable replacement, nor would Rip Cord.
