Most Canadian cities now have Casino's . Have said that the hours can be weird. The hours are set by the province not by the cities. They have limits on what can be bet per play.

In BC there is a 5K limit per hand in cards and 2k limit in roulette. You can still play unlimited for an evening.

This limit was placed to keep money laudry in check.

Halifax has nice casino on the north end of walkway where you tie up. Might be about a mile. Not sure about St John. They did have a Irish pub with a few games. :)
