Children sitting at the bar

Rather interesting thread really.

OK let me get the gist of this whole thread.

Interesting to read that foul language, "adult" conversations (whatever that is), drunkin behaviour, unsuitable for small ears jokes, in a public place that is open to everyone are considered by most to be "appropriate" behaviour in public. But children running around doing what children do best in a open to all passengers place is considered "inappropriate" behaviour?

Adults sitting at a counter (bar) that serves beverages to all ages, is considered "appropriate" but children sitting there is considered "inappropriate"?

And that apparenly these children should be somehow banished after a set time, because apparently a "set time" is considered the adult hours?

OK Now you get it!

It doesn't really bother me unless it's an adult situation, i.e. the night club, piano bar (late) or casino bar OR if they are tying up bar stools and there are older people standing. When people are in designated smoking bars and parents ask them not to smoke because their kids are sitting there, that isn't ok either. I don't smoke, but understand that there are few places (bar wise) to do so, so I think parents should avoid these areas if that is an issue for them.

Our DSs are "guilty" of sitting at the bar and to be quite frank so am I! I don't drink, but I def paid my fare and our DSs fares and so if my DH wants to sit at the bar, I will too and so would our boys.

In 2011 we sailed on the Dream, my FIL came too. Each night, he would meet our youngest DS at the lido bar. At the time, DS was 11. Still to this day, he talks about sitting at the bar with his Grandfather and how much fun they had just hanging out and spending time together. My FIL would drink a rum and coke and my son would have a soda. The bartenders knew them by the end of the cruise and would talk and hang out too. The bar was not busy at night, many times I would walk by and they would be there, just the two of them.

I am not a fan of drinking, but I don't think there is any harm of the kids sitting at the bar. My son has this memory now of him and his Granddad to last a lifetime.

And, when the boys and I have our soda cards, we have to go to the bar to get our drink. Aren't we entitled to sit where we get our drinks?

JMHO

I read some of the responses about language, I don't drink, but I have a mouth on me. Trust me, I don't sensor my language around my children, it wasn't sensored around me. Pretty much both sides of our DSs family has a mouth. So I am not concerned about the language. And trust me, I am a mother of teen boys, they know A LOT, say A LOT, and do A LOT. Even my 10, 8, and 6 year old nephews know A LOT, say A LOT, and do A LOT.
