cookie54 Posted April 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2013 We are sailing on the Rhapsody of the Seas. I am wondering how far from the floor are the beds that fold down from the wall. Do they have bars to keep a child in?
RoofingPrincess Posted April 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2013 They're quite high. if I recall correctly, at least eye level for me, and I'm 5'7" There is a small bar at one side. http://christienj.smugmug.com/photos/217790788_52tJ4-M.jpg
trish1c Posted April 24, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2013 I'm five seven too & the bed was more like chest high on me, not eye level but that was on Princess & NCL. Maybe RCL is different.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 24, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2013 You should ask your question on the RCI board.

Tralynn Posted April 25, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 25, 2013 They are at least as high as an upper bunk bed, sometimes a bit higher. They do have a rail and ladder for safety. If you have a smaller child, ask the room stewart for extra pillows to tuck along the railing to be sure. Also, keep in mind that most of the time (depending on what type of cabin you have) the bunk will be over your bed (if the beds are set up like a queen bed) which gives some added protection. If you are super concerned, contact the cruise line and see if a roll-a-way bed is available for you on your particular cruise.
Gunner22aa Posted April 25, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2013 Can't speak for your ship but on many if you use an upper above another bed it can't be made into a queen because of the ladder for the upper. Check carefully as you may find the lower setup has to be two twins and not pushed together for a single queen
#1TravelMom Posted April 25, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 25, 2013 We usually roll up a large blanket and make an additional barrier. We've gotten awake in the middle of the night with our DD's legs through the rails hanging off the bed.

Check carefully as you may find the lower setup has to be two twins and not pushed together for a single queen On our RCI cruises, we've been able to have the queen bed set up. The ladder was placed at the foot of the bunk instead of at the side. That's also how it was done on our Carnival and NCL cruises as well. Hadn't used the bunk on Princess yet. If your room is not set up that way, just request it.
capncarp Posted April 25, 2013 #10 Share Posted April 25, 2013 On NCL we used the open bunk to store luggage on. We also had the 2 singles pushed together for a queen-sized bed.
sjcruiser Posted April 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 26, 2013 I'm 6'0, and the bed is pretty high up off the floor. The guard rail is needed as a safety precaution.

It doesn't affect the lower bed. OP, there is a rail.
