One of the ports we're stopping at is Villefranche from 10am to 8pm. Would like to go to Nice and Monaco.

What is the best way to do both? By bus or train?

Will we have time to gamble a bit at the Monte Carlo casino?

This question gets asked all the time and was just asked a week or so ago...read down the pages on this board and you will find a wealth of info here.Whether you have time to gamble at the casino depends on which one you go to and how much time you allow. There are two casino's in MC..you can goog le them.

We went from Villefranche to Monte Carlo first thing in the morning by train. It was super easy and if memory serves took about 20-25 minutes to get there. Train stops right in the heart of Monte Carlo, giving you lots of time to walk around and see all the sights. To go into the main Casino I believe you have to wear full suit, or at least a blazer and dress pants (I don't know if you want to be walking around like that all day).

From Monte Carlo we took the train straight to Nice and from the train station you can walk down to the promenade D'Anglais. It's a bit of a hike but you can see alot along the way. Just keep in mind you have to walk back to the train to catch it back to Villefranche.

I would suggest getting an early start in order to cover everything you want to see.

Cheers

Thanks!

We went in on a land trip and we weren't dressed to the hilt (DH definitely wasn't wearing a sport coat.) There is an entry fee which gets you into the rooms for the unwashed masses. We were there during the day - probably not many people dressing to the nines then anyway. Searched for old threads - here's what I found.

TCLOhio described it best. It wasn't crowded and not very James Bondish.

But we had fun sitting outside at the Café de Paris

You can watch the action as people pull up in their high end cars to the casino.
