CENTEX CRUISER

Recommended Posts

We have been to Roatan three times, and have pretty much seen the island. Next time we will dock at Mahogany Bay, our first time there, and are considering just hanging out there on the beach To any of you who have done so, are there beach chairs available for a fee ? Did you like it there ? Are there bars there ? Should I purchase the $42.95 package for two with lift chair included ? Thanks for any help..

DO NOT purchase the $42 package. DO NOT take the air chair. Nice views from there but you can walk it almost as fast and there's a "scenic" trail around over the hill past Fat Tuesdays. Or pavered pathways directly from the cruise center.

There's restaurant and bars by the beach, Honduran beers are reasonably priced. Loungers are free and plentiful. There are charges for clamshells and other items, like float mattresses or kayaks.

But you can spend a reasonably inexpensive day there. Not as scenic water and snorkeling wise as West Bay/End or other parts of the island. But then it's less hassle. Many cruisers use this as their "wind down" stop.

If you haven't ventured northeast on Roatan, past French Harbor toward Jonesville and the mangroves, or over to the other side around the Black Pearl resort, you might consider getting Victor or Rony to arrange a tour. Different perspective from the western half of the island.

Thanks so much for the great info.. We have done the east and west end, west bay, mangrove tour , etc. I think we may just give Mahogany a try as it seems easy, and no rush off the ship...Thanks again :)

YEs, agree that if you have seen the area and not interested in repeating, either spend the time (or part of the day) on the beach at M Bay OR stay on the ship and have a quiet pool day. We do that at many ports we have visited more than 3 times. We like the quiet, choice of loungers, great bar service and just the feeling of being to ourselves.

Like you, we'd been to Roatan many times before Mahogany Bay opened so we did our day at Mahogany Bay.

The beach is quite nice with white sand and pretty blue water. Know you enjoyed Passion Island in Cozumel ... the water part at Mahogany Bay is about the same ... even calmer.

The many beach chairs are free.

Very nice bar overlooking the beach. We sat by the rail there and just went into the water whenever we wished.

We didn't do any sort of package ... just the chair lift #good all day# for $11 pp.

It's only a ten minute walk but we wanted to do the chair lift thing.

We had a great day! :D
